What Makes a Good Pre-sell Page?

Recently, I've been experiementing with article marketing for an affliate product, and I've been successful enough that I'm trying to step up my game. I've been simply linking to the product's sales page, but enough people have said that you can improve conversion with a pre sell page that I want to give it a try.

So I'm curious as to what you think makes a good pre-sell page? I know reviews are popular, but I wanted to get some advice on what the real core of a successful page would be.
