10 Important Rules to Follow when Marketing through Yahoo Answers

Some of you may already be aware of the power that Yahoo Answers has over the online marketing world, others may not. In any case, today I want to take a moment and talk about some of the methods I use (and recommend) for successfully generating an income from Yahoo Answers.

Yahoo Answers receives millions of visitors per day, asking questions and seeking answers to (for the most part) rather simple problems. It's your job to direct these people to products, offers and advice that could help them (and that you are affiliated with).

This doesn't mean going ahead and spamming your links to all questions, but there is a list of things you can do to help you make money from Yahoo Answers, legitimately.

- Randomize / spin your links. Don't use a link on each question you post. In fact, don't use a source at all on some questions.

- Credibility matters on YA. Once in a while, leave something about yourself in the source (use it as a resource box). For example, after providing a quality answer, write a little 'about the author' in the source. "Dr. Robert Marukyan is a specialist in the human genome, and has been providing help to leading biomedical research for the last 10 years". This will significantly raise the chances of your answer being selected as best answer.

- Look for the monthly search results of your chosen keyword using a tool like Google Keyword Tool. Select the 'use keywords closely related to...' and 'Exact' measurements. You can further analyze this data by using a tool called 'FindABusiness.org'

- Find keywords with 'commercial intent' (buying keywords). For example, "Where can I get..."

- Look for keywords in YA, that have a lot of questions but not many answers. People are interested but not enough people are providing answers. It's your chance to swoop in!

- Look for keywords and the number of affiliate products available for that keywords, average conversion rate and 'gravity' on Clickbank. The more the better!

- YA question popularity? Are there many similar questions under that keyword?

- Analyze the search competition? How many competing pages for the single keyword in relation to how hard it will be to rank your Yahoo website. Up to 50,000 Exact pages, is pretty easy to get your Yahoo Answers page in the top 10. I got first for 'Best marketing application' (broad, phrase and exact) in one day with no outside work.

- Report spam. According to Yahoo, reporting answers/questions which are in violation of the community guidelines can raise the reputation of your account, and thereby give it more waiting. Similarly, falsely reporting valid answers can lower the rep.

- Set up 'smart redirects'. Don't use link shorteners, that will get your accounts suspended (if used excessively). Instead, set up a PHP redirect so it looks like yourdomain.com/keyword-page.php redirects to your affiliate page.

- Be personal. "Nick, this is what I think you should do..."

- Keywords with lots of competing Adwords ads, is usually a good indicator of a profitable niche, and one that will also have enough affiliate and CPA offers.

- Sign up on one or more CPA websites, and applying the steps above, find converting offers/high paying offers and keywords and subtly direct people who are interested in similar to them.

- Likewise, after finding your keyword, post/answer your own questions (appropriately, and in a reasonable manner). Be helpful, No spam!

- Test a 'niche' by seeing the responses you get from dummy questions.

I'll add to this list over the next few days. Questions are welcome. These aren't by any means revolutionary ideas, but I can see them helping people who want to get started with Yahoo Answers.
