Do you market to the IM crowd? Then let the Warrior Forum be your guide on what to sell...

If you target the IM crowd or are thinking about it, then the WF can be your best friend when it comes to validating ideas and doing market research.

Here's what to do...
  • Go to the search function
  • Click "Advanced Search"
There is a tag cloud at the bottom. It lists the 100 most-searched-for thread tags. Think about that for a minute. These are the 100 most searched tags on a forum of over 108,000 members. Talk about having your finger on the pulse of your market.

Next...
  • Enter the tag(s) of your choice in the Keyword(s) box in the "Search by keyword" option. Also, set it to "Search Titles Only"
  • Go to "Find Threads With" and set it to "At Least" "x" replies. I start with 20 for x and will go as low as 10 if need be.
  • Go to "Find Posts From" and set it to "x" "And Newer". Here I start with 3 months and newer. If you use a shorter time period, you won't get as many results, but the ones that you do get are what the market is talking about RIGHT NOW. And for some things (more evergreen topics) you can set it to longer than 3 months.
  • Then go to the "Search In Forums" box and select which forums you want to search. I usually use "Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum". Tip: You can use the "Warrior Special Offers Forum" to spy on your competition and see what people are ACTUALLY BUYING
  • Click "Search Now"
  • Prepare to offer the SOLUTIONS that people WANT
I went through these very steps yesterday and had an outline for my next info product (first crack at the IM crowd) within 30 minutes. It helped that I knew the answers to most of the questions being asked and current trends of the topic. But even if I had to do all the research (or hire someone else to do it) I could have had the outline completed in half a day tops.

NOTE: You don't have to use the top 100 tag cloud (but it's a good place to start). You can just pick any keyword and follow the rest of the steps.

I hope this post can be the spark that ignites someones next best seller.

That's actually great advice for any topic that there's an active forum for. You get "straight from the horse's mouth" all the questions, concerns, attitudes, etc. of your target market in one place.

I was just going to add a P.S. that mentioned using this method on forums in other niches as well. You beat me to it.

    Thanks Lance,

Good advice and there are a few forums that would make great candidates for this.

    Kind Regards,

    Good Advice,

Conversely if you (and I have) thought of or discovered something new that you know is just the "latest and greatest" idea and you want to make sure this idea hasn't already been beat to death, do the same search.

If it is not talked about then you can introduce it to the community.
