anyone have any success driving traffic through forum marketing?

I'm not in the IM niche and I just spend like all night setting up my squeeze page, autoresponder, etc... etc... and I'm ready to drive traffic.

I'd like to do some forum marketing to drive traffic through my signature files on different forums in my niche.

I'd like to know if anyone is seeing any real success driving traffic in this way?

Cheers

Hard outside IM niche. Most people see self-promotion as bad (?!?!?!) but it is the reality in our world. Spot the one mods are accepting it and you can easily get 30 visitors/day from that.

Forums are great to promote your product, but you need to have some experiences, read othe posts, find out what forum is the best for your niche and spand tons and tons of time answering and posting a good comments.

I have gotten some good traffic from some other forums I'm a part of.

    Questions:
Will your offer be connected to the theme of the forum? (If not, probably won't get much out of it, if anything.)
Are you a valuable member of a forum and been there a while, or just joining hoping to get some traffic out of it? (If the latter, probably wasting your time.)

It works but for the time invested IMO is not worth it unless you're a regular member of that forum for other reasons.

If you post a lot of good quality posts and know what you're talking about people will tend to click your sig. If you just drop a couple of links you will get nowhere.

I lot of people do this and it can be effective. However most of your focus must be on participating in the forum and providing helpful information and insights. Trying to get leads to your sites through sig file links should be very secondary.

Again it comes down to adding value. As you participate more and provide helpful information and resources, other participants will be to listen to you and value your postings. They may then check out your links since they feel whatever you promote or list should have some value and credibility.

Whatever you do try to always add value and not just promote whatever you are looking to promote.

I think exposure works well if you are an established member of said forum before you start posting the links. If you are advertising your site or product right out of the gate you are just viewed as another seller. Establish yourself first though, and people will trust the links you give them. Always make sure once they opt in you are giving them info of the same quality or better than you were giving on the forum. The money is in the list, but without trust and value the list wont last.

    • I wouldn't count on it being a primary source of traffic, but if you're participating in the right community it is very specific traffic.

Post when appropriate, make a reputation, be open to offers. I've done two guest posts through contacts made here on WF and those posts have generated substantial traffic.

    What fluffy said and...

Add value to everything you do in business. If you're posting on a forum, make your posts informative. Make them entertaining. Make them interesting. Make them funny when appropriate. Become an authority. When you do people are going to want to know more about you.

You're not always going to hit all of those points but again, the goal is to add value. There are tens of thousands of people on this forum. I see new ones every day. It's easy to see who's spamming and who's serious. If I see a spam post I absolutely refuse to click no matter how compelling the anchor text in the sig might be.

I'm not saying you're a spammer. It's just that people read some dopey special report on forum marketing and come to WF or any other popular forum and spam the hell out if it and still see 0 results. Then they say forum marketing doesn't work. But it does if you're sincere and add to the discussion... Good luck.

Completely agree .Unless there is way to pay to advertise in the forum , You cannot join the forum today and tommorrow expect hordes of traffic

You must first contribute first before you can start building your list and seeing sales . If do 10 constructive posts a day , you would be fine .

The good thing about forums is that you are getting highly targeted traffic and mostly buyers traffic so once you get it , you can expect some sales

If you are well known in the forum, its alot easier to get people clicking your links.

But if you can add lots of value to the posts in a marketing forum, or niche forum the more people will be thinking "hmmmm that was a great post, oh this guy has a sig link, I better go check it out" if you can get people thinking that, you can become very successful from forum marketing. its very targeted and can bring in sales and subscribers.

You are better off getting 10 people visit your site from a niche forum, than just junk traffic or say 100 people visiting, as it is highly targeted. The more targeted your traffic is, the more sales you are likely to make.
