Buying a Mature Domian

INTERNET MARKETING

When buying a domain that has been used before, not an active website though, can you see what it's history has been?

Can I see if it is likely that it was slapped or de-indexed by Google ?
Will buying a domain that was used before give me an advantage as a mature domain?

It will be an advantage if the domain has PR to it. You can see some of it's history by doing a search for the domain in Google and clicking on it's "cached" page. You could also see it's history in archive.org.
