Advice on selling advertising

I have been contacted a few time asking about advertising on my site and I have no clue at all what to charge.

My site is
Making Money Ideas

According to Google I am getting around 100 unique visitors per day, Awstas says I get around 849 visits per day.

I have never offered advertising before so if anyone has any experience in this department it would be greatly appreciated.

One other thing... someone wants to buy a permanent link in my blogroll. what on earth should I sell that for?

I am checking your site out... will be back in a few.

Looks like you are already offering blogroll links; at least you have several links there.

at least one of those is mine and the others actually need to be removed. I have never sold a link there just traded a few when the blog was new

I don't know if its my connection or computer, but damn your site loads slow. Scrolling is a beast of a process!

As for advertising, it will be easy to charge a flat monthly rate. Your rate should be set by your traffic and what you feel the space is worth. On the other hand, if you have any PageRank you can sell text links.

Finally you could scratch the whole getting advertisers and simply promote affiliate products and make more money (again depends on your traffic). I used to be all about getting advertisers--now I just use affiliate marketing. Obviously if I owned a super high traffic site I would still entertain the idea of paid advertising lol.

EDIT: Actually your site may be perfectly fine. I use Google Chrome and sometimes it just doesn't want to play nice.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I thought that was just my PC. there are times when I have to re-load the same page a bunch of times, they just seem to get stuck, and thats for all sites inc google itself lol

Hmm... other sites definitely don't hang like your's does. Maybe there is something wrong with the code? I'm not that much of a tech guy (explains why I use wordpress lol), so you might want to have someone check it out for ya!

EDIT: Actually are you using Wordpress? How many plugins do you have running right now? LOL your pop-up about the "locked content" brought me to a crawl. Let me try in Firefox.

You could sell some of your space on buysellads.com or refer to them for suggestions on your pricing. Just compare your site to other sites with similar traffic.

If you are going to sell ad space on your website, I recommend you set up rules and limitations beforehand. I don't place ads, codes, links on my sites unless I have 100% control over them. I also want to make sure that ads do not affect my site's search engine ranks etc.
Btw, your site is still slow loading and there are missing images. You may want to check browser compatibility. (I'm using browsershots.org)
