How Long Should I wait to Promote A Product?

Hi,

How long do you think I should wait to promote a product to my list?

I know building a relationship before selling is important. But, how long should I wait?

Is 1 month a good timeline? Or do I need to wait more?

Thanks

Depends I think partly on the niche and how you brought them into the list to begin with.

I think if you go too long, they may get the idea that you are not there to sell them anything.

You have to be open to the possibility that some of them might get ticked off no matter when you decide to start promoting and will leave.

And that should not scare you. It is all part of the learning experience and you determining what the limitations are for your particular situation.

Just drop a few missiles in there and see what happens.

    It depends.

On the niche, the traffic demographics, their expectations and probably other things, too.

If you're in the house foreclosure niche, and wait as long as a month, you'll lose them all to other marketers.

I have a big range of completely separate, unrelated niches, and I don't wait as long as a month in any of them. (But almost all of mine already know that I'm selling/promoting things, because they've already seen my website).

I typically do my first "promotion" as part of my third email to them, which is typically 6 days after they've opted in.

As a rule of thumb, if you're an affiliate rather than a vendor: unless you're involved in remarkably obscure niches, in which yours is "the only list in town", don't imagine that this is a "new experience" for most of the people on your list. Most of them will have been on many other people's lists before. The "secret", to the extent that there is one, is to try to be the person from whom they'll buy one or two things they've previously been offered by other marketers and not bought. Don't imagine that you'll often be offering something they've never seen before. And don't imagine that you're the only one offering them now. People who found you have found other marketers, too. If you routinely wait for a month, they might already have bought from someone else ...

Ive begun using the following schedule with my follow ups.

    1. Help, give advice, useful information
    2. Help, give advice, useful information
    3. Help, give advice, useful information
    4. SELL

    REPEAT

My emails go out every 3rd day. I dont have any evidence as to whether or not this is a solid strategy as yet though, I've only just begun hitting my lists more regularly.

I think your list must have known when they join your list that they will be offered something. You just need to build relationship with them, after that regularly offer something to them.

Don't worry about losing some subscriber because you will. Just focus to give away valuable information around your niche, and you'll be just fine.

Start out with some good free content in the first 2 or 3 emails and then start to promote your products or affiliate products. You want your list to know that they will get good stuff from you for free but it really is about making money in the end. You will have some people quit your list once you start to promote products that have a cost associated with them but that is why list building is an ongoing process.

Your marketing process should match the niche and opt-in method. For example an incentivized offer to subscribe will take time to build a relationship and trust factor which could take a month or more. On the other extreme, this model is inappropriate for a hungry or desperate market needing immediate solutions. When such a prospect subscribes, the expectation is that you have the solution, and most likely will not stick around to wait for the third or fourth autoresponder sequence to see the product.

I was planning on the online business niche as an affiliate marketer. I dont have a product now to promote. maybe I will have one in 1 year or so.

I'll try to send a welcome mail, then two follow up mail, and then an affiliate offer.

i think that there are different methods to sell I m understanding this as i read the threads and what the people write,Im new i build mini website centered a keyword following few criteria of course just to be in first page good position..3 4 5 posts(the last points to the vendors website) other people creates a web site based on a niche a market and a niche market and building traffic ithat blog then also building a list and then after they have that traffic suggesting the people to go buy what they need to the vendor .In this second case now i understand that you need to achieve good traffic before point it to the vendor page, how much i have still to figure out ,i think is like to build a good portfolio clients and then organize a bus bringing them to the store where they buy.

your website can be a review of a product that you can buy or test or have a demo from the vendor you write pros contras etc etc of course you build a blog.Example you build a blog about dogtraining you talk about how is important to have a dog trained what can be the classic daily training of a dog etc etc different posts(interesting of course),then the last post you say i just reviewed this book ,,,and then you say your real impression about it pros and contras and then you suggest the people to visit the vendor site ,I think you have seen plenty of this easy easy websites with easy graphic no picture no banners just well written of course .Its a different idea of marketing ,that cannot be compared to the classic marketing they are 2 different things i think is different sell 1 dollar pieces to one hundred people ,than one sale of $100.It is like to have a store where you clients sit and you offer them a coffee take your time talk with them then give them a $100 dollar piece to buy.And is another thing to go in the street and sell to people little stuff for a dollar its a different kind of sale i think.I think the advantage to have a portfolio clients interested to your niche market allows you to point the people to different directions and different products , while if you center a blog on a specific product if the product is not cool you only waste energies.because you do a review on something that the people is not interested to buy.If you start a blog to sell a little 15 inches samsung television if that television doesnt sell you wasted your time, if you write a blog about small televisions and then get 3000 people visitng your blog because interested in small televisions you can redirect them to samsung ,or sony or panasonic little televisions,or XKK television producers ,I think it works like this for the little that im understanding.

I quite like to go straight in with giving a video demonstration of the product I am promoting.

As they will be interested in that and will help them decide whether it is suitable for them or not.

Is also a good way for people on your list to hear you voice and you develop a bit of a relationship just from that.

And then just give a link to the official page.

I will then follow up with some emails that talk about the product again, maybe talking about one of the bonus features included, or something else that you can do with the product and where that point is talked about on the sales page.

But even if you dont go straight in with promoting a product, a video is a cool idea as you teach them something for free and give them value. And they can always then go and purchase the product you use in your demo that makes the process easier/quicker etc.
