This place is great but.....

...I can't get off of it! It's so addictive to crawl the forum and click on topic after topic to learn more and more and to read people's success stories, and as a result, I am wasting hours on end on here rather than taking action!! I suppose action IS being taken by being on here and learning, but I have a "to do list" with 17 bullet points and non of them ticked off yet!

Anyway I suppose this is a testament to just how helpful the forum and it's community is to new, and even veteran IMers.

Is anyone else suffering from the sort of obsessive, compulsive forum browsing for hours on end???

    No.

If you need to get your stuff done - DO IT!!!!

And then spend time browsing.... not the other way around

If you're intending to build a business you're going to need to be able to prioritise and take action and resist distractions much more than just browsing the forum. If you really want to be successful you need to start taking your business seriously and get on with it.

That's why I can say it.

I've wasted a LOT of time here in the past that if I'd just been writing articles for $2 each I'd have made a few grand extra with the time.

LoL good to know it wasn't just me. It took me almost 3 months to force myself to limit my time reading posts here to just 1 hour a day. I finally just deleted the URL from my favs list to force myself to have to type out the web address every time. Made it easier since that made it almost like work to have to actually type it out every time.

      Don't be mean lol.

Seriously though, as great as it is to spend time on here, its not making you any money unless you are selling WSO's. Find your favorite method to read about on here, and then go out and do it!

Put a limit on your time here. I tell myself I'll look at 15 threads max, and then after that I need to go do three things from my to do list before I come back. It's a good way to get your fill and get all of your work done.

Limit your time for knowledge and research. If all you do is learn and research you will never get anything done!

In spurts. I usually begin and end my IM day here, but mostly limit it to a few threads or posts. And I use it more at the end of the day then at the start, when I keep it short and limit my time to mainly scanning the titles on a few sub-forums. That is in keeping with my own 'productivity curve' - I spend the productive part of it getting things done.

Some - infrequent - days are exceptions. Today has been one. They are kind of like taking a day off from IM without actually taking a day off from IM (more like taking a day off from doing IM to read about IM).

An occasional day of this can be productive, in its own way (like a lotto thing) - it depends on the threads you happen across and if you gain some insight or idea that you can work into your own plan.

Doing nothing but surfing here is kind of wasting your life, to be blunt: as a break, sure, as a substitute for IM its just voyeurism and a way to avoid actually making money by wasting your time instead. You don't make money by just reading about it. I suspect you realize this and are hoping someone will give you the virtual kick in the nads you need to get started doing it.

Just keep reading and taking notes until you have enough info to put together your plan of action.

Then make a list, step by step, of everything you need to do and start to test and experiment.

Eliminate what doesn't seem to work and upscale anything that seems to give small results.

Be aware that the internet grows and changes at a very fast pace so always diversify your activities and do not rely on any one thing to build your business.

You will get over it.... there will probably come a day when you stumble upon another site with more great info and you spend your time instead, and then go around in circles and circles and then say f**** it all

Haha, I've been productive for a few hours since this post! I aint in any hurry or urgency but I guess I like to be certain about things before diving in.

I've heard the War Room is a great place, but I'll hold off and make that an investment in future!

Since coming on here, and already possing knowledge of building websites, using wordpress and attaining affiliate links etc I am well on track and geared up to make it work!

I've got three sites lined up to be working on over the coming month, although I go away on holiday/vacation this coming Thursday so that's a little in the way. But life goes on.

    Cheers folks!

Those are the types of excuses and justifications that will keep you on the sidelines until something else catches your interest and you forget IM and move onto it. Which is why I call it time wasted for you right now.

You can't learn to play football while sitting on the sidelines and watching the game. You learn to play when you pick up the ball and throw the pass.

But hey, if you want to be a cheerleader instead of a player, that's your call.

You should be strict with how much time you 'allow' yourself to spend on here and on other forums, social media sites etc. Once you have a plan of action within IM then you must block out everything else and simple excute your plan exclusively. Treat it like a business.

It's so easy with information overload to become a butterfly hopping from one thing to another, one thread to the next, one launch until the next one etc...

I can definitely relate. I spent a lot of time on this forum when I first joined.
I learned a lot, got on information overload and lost my focus.

Took some time off, developed my plan and now check in occasionally.

For the first several weeks of joining, I was definitely addicted.

I joined the War Room and check in there on occasion, grab some of the freebies that are relative to my service and sincerely thank the warriors and log off.

Thanks for posting. (Glad it's not just me. )

"to learn and not to do is really not to learn" Quoted from Stephen R Covey.

Thanks to everyone for the replies! It seems a though this place is a bit of new plaything but that you ultimately need to focus. I've made good ground today since posting this thread, but I also realise I need to just go and DO things and see if it pays off, rather than just sit here and read what everyone else is doing. Truth be told I have plenty to be getting on with that I need learn no more for now, because it will take me a good few weeks to implement what I have learnt thus far!

So maybe I shall limit myself to how many threads I should read each day like many of you are saying you do yourselves!

Still, it's great we have this place. Such great resources and a wealth of shared knowledge. No doubt it keeps people inspired!
