Is it me or is this the norm of late, I just checked my email and there is one from a member who's WSO I bought awhile ago is now bribing me to post a review of his new product on the WSO thread even though I have not seen or used it!!,to sweeten the deal I will get a new product if I do this.

I find this a bit strange that you would even get asked to do this or this the norm now and I never got the letter, I mean would you do this?

I believe that is against the WSO rules - to offer incentives to those who will give a review. Or what you are seeing may be borderline.

    9. (added 29 June 2011) You may not offer any kind of "bribe" inside your product in exchange for leaving reviews in your WSO thread. For instance, you can't offer a bonus report that people only get if they leave a review. This makes all the reviews in your thread at least slightly suspect.

I wouldn't do it but some of the people I've JV'd with in the past have done things like that. Seems a bit dishonest to me.

If you haven't used or tried a product, you shouldn't be asked to review it because not only are they asking you to be deceptive here.. They are also asking you to put your repuation on the line - for their profit.

^^ 2 important keywords above in Mick's post:
    - deception
    &
    - your reputation

It's clearly against the rules to offer bribes for reviews.

It's perfectly normal for some people to ask you to post
a review after you've made a purchase... if you felt that
the product merited it... at least I've seen that a lot.

A lot of purchasers don't think of posting reviews, and
they are often helpful to others considering making a
    purchase.

I definitely wouldn't post a review if I had not used the
product. It COULD turn out to be garbage and your
    reputation is shot.

Not only is he begging for a review, he doesn't even care if you've tried the product first.

I would go post a review about his email to you

I would perhaps post a note to the moderators, but posting about
the email could backfire and get you banned... I guess it depends
upon how you worded it though.

I would not post the review as suggested. You can inform a mod of the situation since bribing people to leave reviews is against the rules here.

I would report this to moderators. Unfortunately this happens "behind the scenes" a lot.

Thanks for all the great answers here, I have emailed the person and explained the unease of giving a review and the fact it is against the WSO rules anyway , will wait and see what reply if any and then let the mods know if needed

Personally, as soon as I spot something outside the rules I report it to the mods... I bought so many wsos that had great reviews on the thread to find out that everyone had received a bribe to do so...

    Very unprofessional...

    My 2 cents

This happens everywhere on every forum I guess. It's encouraging to see a lot of honest Warriors who do not tolerate this which goes to show that there are still a lot of Internet marketers who cannot be sold

Considering there are people who sill sell crack to children I guess there are bound to be people who break the forum rules and are happy to pimp products in an unethical way.

Report it to a mod for sure. Seems like this method could easily backfire for the seller since most of the users here are ethical and wouldn't do something like this anyway. For the seller it just seems like a huge risk to take. The person can leave a bad review or even tell a mod. Both would make the product their selling lose all credibility and maybe even deleted.

This is the kind of thing that the FTC rules require to be disclosed in a review...

"hey here is my review, but I just want you to know that even though this is my sincere opinion, I got a cool new version of the software for giving my opinion here..."

If the seller offers any bribe or incentive for a review in the thread, report it to a mod. It is most definitely against the rules. In some cases, the seller may be banned for doing this.

Well, actually in the WSO thread itself, review copies and other incentives are often allowed due to the transparency of the offer.

A review copy is basically an incentive for a review. There's one huge WSO that offers two prices ... a lower price for those who will leave a testimonial and regular price for those who will not. Of course, the WSO has an enormous amount of testimonials. I bought the WSO and it deserves all those testimonials. It's everything that I hoped it would be and more.

I'm talking about telling the buyer privately after the transaction that if they post on the thread they will get a goodie of some type. That is a non-transparent offer. That's a bribe. A review copy is not a bribe.

I haven't seen the WSO offering two different prices, but I find the strategy a bit shady, no matter how good the WSO might be. I'm a little surprised that it's allowed.

I don't think a bribe is the way to do this... asking for someones opinion is ok but no bribes
