Sky News Doing A New Bit On Groupon In uk

Just a heads up for UK warriors that Sky News are today doing a piece on the rise of groupon and similar sites in the UK. They interview business owners using groupon (and such like), customers buying groupon and getting comment from UK money saving expert Martin Lewis.

    Hi Richard,

I'm not a big TV watcher, but don't you find that when you watch TV about internet subjects, it's like stumbling across a forum thread, written by complete newbs about three years previously?

I usually do. On internet topics, they are particularly weak. But with all subjects across the board, TV is so dumbed-down and filled with hypnotic social-engineering subliminals that I find that apart from making me tear my hair out, it actually de-educates me (the Murdoch factor?)

I realise that not every warrior is savvy in all relevant internet skills, but it still surprises me that once people know how to use Google properly and also filter the information provided, they are not all getting all of their news and education mainly from online sources. Once you find something that's a lot closer to the truth, it's even harder to stomach dumbed-down BS.

A quick example - talking to non internet savvy people about business (some are self-employed, but not running 'businesses' as such) it's become apparent to me that these type of people think that the primary way to get into business is to 'invent' something. Can you guess what program they've been watching?

It doesn't seem to cross their minds that the room also contains 'dragons' who make their money by inventing nothing, just shuffling green paper.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm not trying to suggest the program will be naff (much), just wanted to ask you the question and got carried away waffling.

Repeat - so do you find that most TV programs about the internet appear to be written by newbs three years ago?

      Hi Roger,
Oh I agree. I don't think it was a good piece. Just interesting. The only facts they presented in the piece was the fact more people are searching for groupon and such sites online in the UK. They interviewed 3 business owners. One said they hadn't be able to furfil all the coupons in the redemption period and 2 said they'd lost money but were hoping to have gained loyal customers.
So I'm not sure what I'd think as a UK business owner after watching that?

Well, bearing this in mind -
