Why Do So Many Chase the Internet Marketing Dream?

I love reading but and i have read so many books but i must say that the following two books have changed my life completely.
1. Who moved my cheese.
2. The richest man in Babylon.

this sounds like a great book I need to check out...

Freedom is what earners are after with any venture. You build and let the website work for you. Most fail, few succeed. But the chase is what is truly rewarding. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it buys freedom which can lead to happiness.

They can always outsource the work. With the likes of Fiverr, odesk and elance, that's not as big a challenge considering the benefits.

Any book that makes you think I should really only have sex with my girlfriend in the spring so that if we have children they are born in January or early February because the kids will have an advantage in school has definitely changed your thinking.

A book that makes you realize there are four ways to make money, i.e. employment income, self-employment income, business income, and investment income, and a book that makes you realize that the easiest way to make money is to create it out of thin air by coming up with an idea that other people might invest in definitely changed my way of thinking.

Then there is "The E-Myth" which teaches the value of creating a system, then of course "Built to Last" and it's "Good to Great" companion that show you some of the different kind of thinking that goes on at companies that become institutions which was impressive for me.

Realizing that I'm a Maven who occassionally becomes a Connector certainly impacted my life back when I was helping with a few Presidential campaigns in the early part of the last decade, and realizing that one guy with a camera and $7 grand made from being a guinea pig for a medical lab could change his stars is always fun.

I guess you could say I like those books for different reasons.

can you picture a world where everyone is as smart as we are, no one toiling in the fields, factories and offices get empty.. everyone busy with internet marketing but just for 4 hours/week, then all go dancing tango in Argentina

Hmm not too many books have made my stop and really think about my own points of view or values but 3 stick out clearly in my mind...

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Think and Grown Rich by Napoleon Hill
4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris

By far Ayn Rand's books have had the biggest impact on my way of thinking. Oh sure some of her ideas are kind of nuts but the basic premise of not letting someone else determine how much my mind is worth stands right there at the top of my beliefs. (heh I try to avoid affiliate programs as much as I can)

Your story is quite interesting. I googled Rum Diary just to see how it was applicable to this post. What I gotten out of your post is the path to success are many. Everybody got a story to tell. One must find theirs!

4 hour work week was one on this list that didn't work for me. For me, it just had the feel of a guy that realized the success of 'Think and Grow Rich' and decided to put a new marketing spin on it... but it didn't ring nearly so true.

'The Secret' was the same way. It tends to violate a lot of natural laws in suggesting that anything can be accomplished. Had me scratching my head a lot going..... "huh?" Looking in the mirror and repeating "I will grow rich" all day ain't gonna' make you rich.

Think and Grow Rich is still the Best. There's a guy who's life study was what he wrote about it just feels honest and leaves the reader going "Wow".

Just googled this and read the intro on Amazon, wow, looks like I'm going to have to request it from my local library...i couldn't stop reading, very interesting and thought provoking, thanks for sharing.

Question: Why Do So Many Chase the Internet Marketing Dream?
Answer: To make money from home.
I think that is the reason, in a nutshell.

The reasons why people want to make money from home are many:

*to avoid having an ahole boss
*to not have to drive to and from work
*to be your own boss and take time off when you really want or need to
*to make good $ when no one will hire them due to age or lack of formal education
*to set one's own schedule
*to not have to get up and shower, shave and put on work clothes (to work in one's pajamas)
*to be able to watch kids while working
*to be more in control of one's own income

It's already been mentioned, but the 4 hour work week opened my eyes to internet marketing and trying to achieve the whole...well for lack of a better term, 4 hour work week. Now having some experience I know that it doesn't exist...or if it does...it's like winning the lottery. There has to be work involved.

Because for peoples working 7+ hours per day for an "average" salary, having the ability to earn income from home is really priceless .. it's not necessary that peoples want to get rich or are lazy, i think it's mostly that peoples want more time for them..which is legitimate.

I'll be honest here i think the normal "day jobs" or "offline jobs" or whatever you call it are a scam for the most part, for me it really compare to modern-day slavery(yea you're welcome to debate this with me i got arguments) when i see my parents that are working so hard, and so many hours per day, of course if your revenue is decent it's not that bad, what i mean peoples that are working 40 hours per week for a baddy salary .. that's scam for me because your time is worth way more than that, in other words you waste most of your life doing "work" for other peoples that profits mostly the bosses, investors, and higher-ups(pyramidal) but in the end of the day, whether you work hard or with your heart will not get your salary raised.

In IM you get rewarded for your efforts, that's highly motivating to me .

Hey and by the way this is not about communism or somthing like that ..a fair distribution of the benefits(made by the company you work for) is what it's about.
