is there an easy-to-use program that can produce a site with a similar format to Barton Publishing | Natural and Alternative Health Remedy Reports ?

i'm selling a few different info products through their own minisites, that although are in slightly different niches, are all generally related. i'd like to however have one primary branding site that will list those few primary products being sold, plus several other rebranded rr products. (fyi, the vast majority of rr products will be on the primary site simply to add legitimacy, not to turn sales.)

anyway, is there a program that i can use to create a site like the one listed...a program that i can easily edit without having to outsource for every change or product i want to add? the minisites for the few products that will be heavily promoted have been outsourced, i'm just looking for an editor/creator that i myself can use to easily build and maintain a site for indexing all the products.

looked at wordpress, ithemes, weebly and a few others, but have no idea which to go with.

thnx,
bj

You can try XSitePro - it's really intuitive. Unfortunately, it's not cheap. Seems like you could definitely do that with Wordpress anyway though?

Each item for sale would just be a post. The top is just a "featured item" ... The about, contact, etc are just "pages" and the sidebar stuff is, well, a sidebar with some widgets. Should be very doable with Wordpress.

That's a basic HTML/CSS site. Can be done in any HTML editor if you know how to design. The other alternative if you don't know how to design web pages is to buy a template from places like TemplateMonster and have someone customize it for you.

never tried to build a site before, i'm an idiot when it comes to this.

downloaded the wordpress file and unzipped it....was several files and folders. the instructions for the quick install from Installing WordPress « WordPress Codex are:
        1. Download and unzip the WordPress package, if you haven't already.
        2. Create a database for WordPress on your web server, as well as a MySQL user who has all privileges for accessing and modifying it.
        3. Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.
        4. Open wp-config.php in a text editor and fill in your database details as explained in Editing wp-config.php to generate and use your secret key password.
        5. Upload the WordPress files in the desired location on your web server:
          • If you want to integrate WordPress into the root of your domain (e.g. IANA — Example domains), move or upload all contents of the unzipped WordPress directory (but excluding the directory itself) into the root directory of your web server.
          • If you want to have your WordPress installation in its own subdirectory on your web site (e.g. IANA — Example domains), rename the directory wordpress to the name you'd like the subdirectory to have and move or upload it to your web server. For example if you want the WordPress installation in a subdirectory called "blog", you should rename the directory called "wordpress" to "blog" and upload it to the root directory of your web server.

            Hint
: If your FTP transfer is too slow read how to avoid FTPing at : Step 1: Download and Extract.
        6. Run the WordPress installation script by accessing wp-admin/install.php in a web browser.

you kidding me...that's the "quick" install!?! not even going to waste my time viewing the detailed one. what ever happened to simply loading a program on by clicking next > install, etc???

wanted an easy-to-use program such that i'd be able to at least make minor changes quickly myself. think i need to just hire someone.

thnx for the help folks but like i said, i'm an idiot when it comes to this.

        peace,
        bj

Never install Wordpress through your cpanel whether it's by using Fantastico or any other 1 click wonder.

The database created by them are so easy to hack and your site will be vulnerable.

Always use File Manager or an FTP program to install it following the instructions laid out by Wordpress in the installation file that comes with the package.

            And then what?

You are juts misleading the OP: if one has the skills to tweak WP in a way to set up a site as in the example given in the OP... then the person surely has the knowledge to make it even just using Notepad and hand coding it.

Can you prove I am wrong?

Or better: can you make easily a site like the example with WP without having XHTML/CSS knowledge? Show us and make a site for him while we watch you

With thousands of themes available for Wordpress you are able to look around and find one which suits you.

There are hundreds of really good premium theme sites WordPress - ThemeForest for 1.

If I was to put a list here the page would get pretty long.

If you wanted to clone the site without doing css then yes you could if you knew which theme to use. Case in point:

              iThemes Builder | iThemes

              look at the style manager:

              iThemes Builder | iThemes

I personally use the builder theme so I know you can do it, if you are a beginner then the ithemes forum is the place for you.

Hours of beginner training for the builder theme if you wanted to learn about CSS if not use the Style manager.

Goto that page and watch the layout editor video and then the style manager video and tell me you can't use them to clone the look of a site.

Istvan why would I want to create a site for someone to proove you wrong, you have your beliefs and I have mine.

Mine are the best thing about wordpress is it is easy to use, there are thousands of tutorials online covering every aspect of wordpress, there are thousands upon thousands of themes you can choose from and you can use plugins to extend wordpress to do just about anything.

If you thought I had left out a step or 2 then maybe you could have helped and pointed them in the right direction like christopher jon, see the helpfull link to a theme he could use.

The OP asked a question "Is there an easy-to-use program that can produce a site with a similar format to..."

              I answered wordpress

His next issue was with the install of wordpress, I offered up a simple solution.

wasn't planning on cloning anyone's site. i chose to post that site as an example because i like the way the products are organized, and because attempting to verbally explain the general format would, for me, be a lot more difficult that simply saying "look at this, this is what i'm talking about."

Here is what I would do if I were you.

    Grab something like this,

WordPress - enVirashop - eCommerce Wordpress Theme - ThemeForest

Note: I haven't used that theme and it could be a complete POS but it looked OK and has paypal integration. There are a bunch of other retail themes available if that one doesn't float your boat.

That's $30 for the theme. Given your limited knowledge with wordpress you'll probably have to hire somebody to set it all up for you. I think you can figure it all out over a weekend.

Now, you have essentially what you are after. A mothership site promoting all of your products with a shopping cart and if you want you can also link out to each individual products website.

BJ, take no notice of the wp codex. Well, at least not so much notice that you let it scare the bejeezuz out of you.

I stayed away form wordpress for months because I thought it was hard. I was wrong.

      Dont' use Fantastico!!!

I have a mate who's a wp geek. go check out her video

Install Wordpress Self Hosted Blog (Video) | Cenay Nailor

Even I managed it after watching this and now I can install it no problemo. Trust me, I'm an idiot so if I can do this anyone can.

I'm sure I downloaded an ecommerce theme a while ago, 'Market Theme(?). It was a breeze to set up, but at the time I wasn't techie enough to customise it so I've never bothered with it again. Must dig it out and try it again.

Then you just need to choose a theme, and there are loads to choose from. Elegant themes do a couple of 'store' types, I've never use the enVirashop from Themeforest but it looks very simple to use.
