I have a list. Now what?

Hello, All!

I am new to this forum and I am enjoying it so much!

I have a list of around 1800+ moms. The vast majority of these (over 3/4 of the list) are moms with a home business or are moms looking to start a home business.

I started building the list simply because I have wanted to connect with other moms/WAHM's. I have not invested any money in building my list.

As far as generating income from the list, the only things I have done so far is to compile a Home Biz Directory and charge a fee for a spot in the Directory, charge for ads placed on my websites, and charge for ads in the periodical newsletter I send out.

I really feel like I am sitting on a nice start to a large list that could provide a great income, but I could use some ideas on what my next steps might be.

TIA

    G'day,

Since you have a blended list of women that want
a business and women that already have a business.

The first thing i would do is send them a survey on
what sort of stuff they want to hear from you.

Or ask them what are the biggest problems that
they face...and give them the solution in either
    an ebook/software/affiliate link.

    Hope that helps?

    Take Care,

    Michael Silvester

P.S No point in guessing...just ask them!

    Hi Shay!

Congratulations, this sounds like a great list!

The best advice I can provide you is to earn their trust.

If you can provide them with lots of free, quality information throughout your emails, then you can start integrating some affiliate links and recommendations. You can make on average $1 per subscriber per month.

What I suggest you do, is take them on your personal journey. Let them know how you're making money online and keep them in the loop as you progress over time. Whenever you find a cool product or service that helps you, then tell them about it. Keep your tone conversational and friendly and be ready to give first in order to receive. ALso encourage dialogue by asking them questions and letting them reply directly via email. Every time you get an email, make sure you reply to it personally.

If your motives are to truly help these moms make money online with you, then they will pick up on that and will be super responsive to your emails!

    ALL THE BEST!

Asking your list what they want is a great method of market research for product creation, and even as an indicator of what you should offer your list in the way of information and affiliate recommendations. But this should never be the only intel that you gather.

      Here's why:

When you send an email to your list asking them a question, even with the most responsive lists, only a small percentage of them will reply. This is because not everyone has the time or energy to give you an answer. If by some miracle they all have the same answer - then by all means run with it!

But here's the problem. The people who answer you will have a certain personality-type, these are the people who like to give out feedback, however these are not necessarily the same people who will whip out their credit card when you send out a promotion.

You could have a list of thousands and never have a reply to your emails, even though you are making loads of sales. For this reason you shouldn't decide what everyone on your list wants based on a few replies to a question you send out.

Instead, with a niche like this, you have to assume that everyone wants to learn HOW TO MAKE MONEY. If you can come up with an engaging way of helping them to do that - then they will eat out of your hand.

Of course there are certain psychological buttons that you can push depending on your niche, but this information can be found on forums and other places where mothers who want to make money hang out - you'll also find that particular buttons will be consistent across any list within your niche.

Here are some ways to make money from your list:

        1) Use Survey Monkey or any other survey website to create a simple survey asking them what their biggest problems/most burning questions are. Then send it to your subscribers. Look for the common themes in your replies and start making plans to create an information product (perhaps a short 15-20 page report) and sell it to them. Keep doing this every few months and soon you will have a few reports that you can sell. Then you can bundle these reports together and sell them as a premium package.

        2) Send them cost-per-action offers. As long as your subscribers fill up a form, you get paid. They don't even have to buy anything! You can find such CPA offers on Commission Junction, Hydra Media or CPA Empire. These are very easy to sign up for and start making money with almost immediately. In fact, you can send out a relevant offer right now, start getting sign-ups, and start racking up affiliate commissions.

        3) Create content pages with Adsense ads and send them to your subscribers. This is a good way to make some extra income, although it will be nothing significant unless your niche has some top paying keywords. But it a nice income boost.

        4) Do joint venture list swaps with other list owners in your market. Create a simple squeeze page for your joint venture partners to use. This will grow your list faster. You are using your list as leverage to get profitable joint ventures which will grow your list and your business much faster. Bigger list = bigger market reach. So always look for ways to grow your list. Forget talk about quality subscribers. Everyone knows that all things being equal, with the same kind of email marketing and relationship building and reciprocity, a bigger list means more money.

Just from the questions that have alresady been asked by my list, I know what the first report will be about - low-cost marketing ideas.

Not sure what the next one will be about yet. LOL

        Hello Shay,

I agree with Michael Silvester. In short he is saying to use your new found list to build your business with back-end products, HOWEVER only endorse those products that you have used and feel is a great product to offer your list. That also means that whenever you send a newsletters don't always endorse a product with your affiliate link.

You always want to put out a publication with real valuable information. When I subscribe to newsletters I will automatically unsubscribe from those emailing me every 2 days with the latest and greatest product that I must buy.

Do that and you will earn their trust.

          Brilliant advice in this thread...

          1. Survey the list and ask them what they want.

          2. Send them to high quality targeted content...some free some they may have to pay for.

Ideally most of the emails your list gets from you should send them to free content and if you're sending them to buy anything but a very low priced product then a high quality sample of the content in the product is best.

That way your subscribers will value the information you're giving them, trust you and stay responsive.

Having said all that with products that are $20 or less it usually works better just to send your subscribers straight to a sales page.

My basic guideline is send 2 content emails before you send an email selling something.

Different strategies work for different lists though.

          Kindest regards,
          Andrew Cavanagh

              Hi TIA,

U can ask them as what Michael said.

              Other things you can do:
              1. Meet up with them and get to know them.
              2. After knowing what they want, work out a JV with others who can provide the product/ service and get a commission.

(It is like tubers ware party at home.)

              3. send them email course weekly to help them get started (and along the way promote some affiliate products)

And remember to build long term trust and relationship with them. =)

Congrats on building the list without a cash outlay. That's very cool!

Congrats on getting 1800 names that actually fit into a fairly well defined list. That's very cool!

Monetizing your websites...is cool if you're not taking ads from scum bags, gypsies and thieves.

A HOME BIZ DIRECTORY? NOT COOL!

NOT ORIGINAL. AND ULTIMATELY NOT PROFITABLE...BECAUSE IT'S GONNA KILL YOUR LIST.

You need to market to this list the same way you compiled it....with a personal touch. Genuine.

Home Biz Directory's have been around since the slock magazines...and most of what's in them is comprised of scams designed to exploit stay at home moms et al. And that's the truth! And while you might make the sale once...you wont make a second one.

Your list isn't interested in getting screwed, they're interested in a way to make a few honest dollars at home... while they deal with all the shit that a mom deals with on a daily basis etc.

They don't want to be pitched a program.....they want some guidance....and they'll pay for it if it's genuine...but if it aint....you're going to lose your list--- because they've been there and done that before. I assure you.

And once you do that...you are dead in the water.

Stay at Home Moms want a friend they can trust who understands the shit they go through....they want a better life....but they don't to be hard pitched on anything. If I know that....you should too.

I would start out by networking with other successful female Warriors....like Tiffany Dow and Sylvia R...and several others who probably hate my guts....and get a feel for how they market. There are some great ones around this joint, I assure you.

Interview a couple of them....put it up on your site or blog......provide value like that.

Several of these warrior ladies have the personal touch down to a science....because they treat their list like one of their girlfriends.....rather then as a customer. And these chicks make big money. Model that.

Create something ORIGINAL based on your own experiences--- rather then pitching some cookie cutter lists of Biz Opps.....that most of which....will never make anyone a penny....just the opposite.

Because if you're smart enough to compile the list to begin with...as you have...then you're smart enough to understand what your list is all about...AND WHAT THEY REALLY WANT. Create and market accordingly.

      Hey, Vegas Vince!

      Thanks for your advice!

I am very selective as to the ads I accept on my websites and in my Directory. Trust me. I am like a mother hen with my list members.

I have spent the last several years building a relationship with these members. Many of my new people are coming from referrals from current members, so I know that the members who are currently on this list must like something I am doing. LOL

But I appreciate your advice and I will definitely take it to heart.

Congrats on having your 1800 subscribers list.

I myself have 200 subscribers list but they are quite unresponsive. My plan is to create a survery asking for their age group, sex, interest, their problems.

Once I have got the info, I will know at least who am I targetting at and provide them with useful info and at the same time recommend some good product.

When I started internet marketing, I wanted to make a quick buck but I think it is wrong. By building a good relationship with my list, I will gain their trust and hopefully they will buy things that I recommend.

Right on. There is no easy way out. Internet marketing is about trust. You also have to genuinley care about your visitors. And remember, you can't fake this trait. Once you do that, they will definately buy from you. That is why they opted in in the first place.

Also, how about diversifying? For example, I have my adsence/affiliate programes, so for those who may never opt into my list, they still make money for me
