12,000 Subscriber List, Can't seem to make much money with it.

First let me say that the list is in the coupon niche. It seems as though I can't make much money from it. Maybe a few hundred a month. I heard you should be making a dollar per month for every subscriber you have. I have about a 20-30% open rate, is that good/bad? Any ideas on how I can cash in on this list?

Thanks

Is it your own list or did you purchase it ? A sold list won`t make you as much money as when you build one from scratch. There are so many reasons for that.

The demographics of that sort of niche would indicate people who are saving money, frugal, etc...?

Michael is right about the demographics. Also $1 per subscriber isn't for every niche. Most people who claim $1 or more, a lot of them are in the IM niche or some other make money niche. It can be done with other non make money niches, but it does get a bit difficult to do...

For the coupon niche I would say it's difficult to do, but it would depend on what exactly you're doing to monetize.

How many emails do you send to this list in a week/month?

What are you doing to monetize?

How are you building this list? Squeeze page, etc.?

I do a couple things to monetize:
      1. I have banner ads on the side of email newsletter
      2. I send readers to a post on my site that has affiliate offers

I send a daily digest email of all my posts for my blog.

building via squeeze pages, contests/giveaways, facebook, etc...

Yeah the value of your subscriber depends heaps on what niche you're in.

As warrior600 stated a $1/month per subscriber is very high and most niches you wont see this sort of conversion rate... it wouldn't surprise me that a "bargain hunter" type niche like coupons would be quite a bit lower than this.

Also make sure that you're treating you're list well too - by mixing up your sales messages with free and insanely useful information that's relevant to that niche you can greatly increase your trust and conversion rates over time.

Hmmm - coupons. Saving money. Start thinking laterally...credit offers? Debt consolidation/reduction offers (if there are any non-scuzzy ones out there)? Do you have a breakdown of what the coupons were for, i.e. baby goods, groceries etc? If you do, think on from there...

I agree, people in this niche probably aren't looking to spend money and they may be in financial distress.

Start thinking from their perspective and imagine what might be of interest if you were in their situation.

If there are magazines on couponing, you could see what kind of ads are running in those magazines...display and classified.

If those ads have been running for any length of time, there's a market for their stuff in that segment.

Then either create products that are similar or find affiliate opportunities.

      Best wishes,

      Chuck

Yes. Providing valuable information and content, you will position yourself as a friend and not a spammy salesperson.

*Remember: People will follow and join YOU, Not your company or products.

Once people view YOU as a leader, then they will trust what products you have to offer! So mix up your messages and provide more value than sales pitches!

I have some suggestions, since its about coupon :
    1. Target women, women are bought with emotion, they are weaker to stand a discount/ sale offers
    2. Send campaign to your list contain images of the product with discount/ coupon, better to grab the attention than just a plain text

Well I guess since it's the coupon niche you just send offers from CPA networks.

My guess is that you might have too many people on your list which can't reedem your offer so they just get a offer unavailable message.

What about sending some affiliate offers for some coupon sites? Groupon, Living Social, etc. have affiliate programs and you can pick out the offers that are good nation wide on aggregate sites like Yipit.

Restaurants.com is another place that offers an affiliate program and offers discounted restaurant gift certificates.

Lots of CPA offers to consider-- free gift cards, Netflix, etc.

Thanks but I just make a few hundred from the email list. I didn't mention how much I made from adsense and ads on the site, which is quite a bit more. If you think you can/want to by the site/list still PM and we can talk.

I too am in the couponing niche. What I have learned is too WAY over deliver on the content. In this world a photo speaks a thousand words. Conversions went way up the more I added photos of shopping trips to my email campaign. My list wants to see that I really can do what I teach. To support my affiliates, I provide them with photos and the email campaigns. Photos make a HUGE difference!

I guess I have a question for you! Have you tried building a couponing list via mobile squeeze pages? I have started and it is failing miserably... I am wondering if it is just the niche. Good clicks, bad conversion...

Are you providing a lot of value to your customers. I'm talking about giving away free stuff and giving out great information. After a while, they will say "WOW" if I'm getting all of this stuff for free, what if I were to buy some of his/her stuff. The things that you can give away for free can be PLR stuff. You will be amazed at how cheap the stuff really is.

Basically, build a relationship with your list and provide value.

Wow, 12,000 is actually a lot!
I know guys profitting from 500 - 1000 people list..
I'd say, ease off on the promoting if you are and just send your list kind newsletters to build their trust that the source of the emails are good. And to lower the frequency of the sending to like twice a week.

If you do see a significant increase in open rates, then you can start throwing in promotions once a week.
Just try not to send too much, that's important.

There's so much lists that I've had to unsubscribe to because they send like 2 emails a day -.- and fills my list with thousands of unecessary emails.

Have you sent out a survey or poll question to your list? Give them a really good offer for filling out the survey or poll question. Let your list tell you what they would be interested in.

The $1 a subcribers is just a statistic made up.

Some months we make more than that, other not, its way under.

But it depends on how well you know your list, yoru offers and the ground work you have been putting in to create a nice relationship with them.

It takes a while to master all this, but I would not go spamming them, think about what you should send them to help them. Build up much more trust and credibility first.

promote the entertainment book. Talk about it all year in your other messages, about how great it is for your area (which it is for most areas) and about how it's all over the country (if you are in the u.s.).

Offer links to it, but tell everyone not to buy it yet - that it goes on sale every spring for $10 (if it hasn't sold out yet). Let everyone knew you will tell them when it goes on sale

When it goes on sale send out at least two messages in a couple of days.

When the price drops to $10 I can make $300 in a day with a 4000 person list that has nothing to do with coupons. You should be able to make $300 an hour I would imagine.

The commission is $4 a book but if you sell a lot it goes up to $7 a book.

p.s. I buy and review and use the entertainment book every year and I give personal advice to my list about it.

If you want to cash in on the list tell everyone you have a 12,000 subscriber list and charge people to send ads to them I have one list strictly dedicated to this I get money from people and just blast their ads to this list.

I would suggest giving solo ads for coupons. Find a company and offer them the service. Tell them all they have to do is offer their service with a coupon of 30% or so and you can email it to your list of 12,000 for $50-$200.

I suggest double dipping on this one.

Create a membership area where they pay say $5-$10/month to access to multiple special offers. You can then get these offers straight off CPA networks (gift card offers, iPad, TV, handbag, etc.) and place links in the members area. You will need to sell your list/website viewers on the fact that for just $5-$10/month, they can prospectively save thousands of dollars with your offers and even win some prizes Making people pay to access the membership will make them think it has more value than if you offered it for free. This in turn will keep them month after month completing offers.

Now you are getting paid from the membership (recurring income) + all of the CPA offers!

All you will need to do to maintain it is to get new offers as they come out from various CPA networks. You can probably add 50 new offers each month easily as long as you are in multiple networks.

This works well, I ran something very similar to this last year with around 2,000 members

That open rate is a good 100% higher than industry averages according to the Direct Marketing Association's annual Response Rate report. Good for you!

The first thing I would do is this.....

Are you ready for something revolutionary?!

Instead of *guessing* ASK PEOPLE what they want!!

    Then, give it to them.

If you want to get "official" send out a survey. If not, send out a simple email saying:

"I'm guessing I have some solutions, tips and deals you guys would love! Tell me what you're most interested in, what your biggest problems are when it comes to [X] and how I can help - in 1 or 2 sentences..."

You might get a few dozen or a few hundred responses....

The point is that everyone 1 or 2 people who responds represents 50 or 100 people who think the same thing but won't respond.

So take the feedback you get - arm yourself with it. Then, go out and give it to them.

You will be so astounded by the results, add so much value and build credibility and trust with your list.

    Hope This Helps,
    Shola

This is an excellent idea. I also wanted to chime in and say I think a daily email is a little excessive. Just from personal experience, if I'm on a list that sends out at that pace, all it takes is not checking my mail for 3 days or so then I will log in, get annoyed and either just mass delete or make a mental note to unsub.. my 2cents
