Complete 'newbie' looking for help and advice! (First ever post on WF!)

Hi all, this is my very first post on Warrior Forum!
My name's Ryan, I'm 29, I've recently quit my job and have decided that I'd really like to get in internet marketing. I was recommended the Warrior Forum by a friend who is an internet marketer and have been very impressed by the amount of information available here. The only problem being, for a complete 'newbie' there's almost too much information! it's quite overwhelming as to know where to begin!
I'd really appreciate any advice that you're able to give to me with regards to starting out as an internet marketer.
I have joined and bookmarked some other sites:
Million Dollar Network, The Challenge, DotComSecrets, Chris Farrell Membership, amongst others!! Has anyone else starting out used these sites or even if you weren't starting out! Did you find them useful? Are there any other sites you could recommend for people looking to start from scratch in internet marketing?
Any help or advice you're able to give me would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks, Ryan

    Welcome aboard Ryan!

Most people here don't bookmark other sites...

You'll find almost everything you need here on WF (aside from maybe burgers and fries..).

If you spend the next 2 weeks studying WF you'll be well on your way to making money online.

    Hi HP,

Thanks very much for your response and your welcome.

The reason I bookmarked a few other pages is because after reading a few other newbie posts on here pleading for help and advice (just like I did!) a few sites kept getting mentioned as good places to start.....but I can see what you mean, there is so much information on here that I could probably use this forum as a 'one stop shop' for everything internet marketing!!
I will certainly be using the forum a lot to read and learn as much as I can and to ask questions when I need to.
Thanks a lot for being the first person to respond to my first post and for your advice.

    Hey Ryan
    Welcome to WF!

What I would do is read as much as possible to get up to speed on a few IM topics in WF. Also, ask as many questions as you feel necessary (do your research first though). You will probably find everything you need here on this site. I would also join the War Room if you have some cash.

Decide on how much you are willing to invest (if anything) as a newbie and then search out a well reviewed WSO on an IM area that you find interesting. It may be a free WSO. Stick with that same WSO/method for a couple of months and do not be tempted to keep buying the next best thing. You must take action! If you see no results after a couple of month either refine your strategy or move on to something else.

When you do succeed (this could mean just making $1), rinse and repeat.

As I said before, if you need help all you need do is ask and someone will answer your call.

    Good luck my friend!

    Hi Ryan,

Like the others jsut said, welcome to WF. i am fairly new here myself and the best advice i can give you is to use the search function and research any questions you have. Chances are the question has been answered many times by most of the long time Warriors. You will glean from all this reading the few things you need to do in order to be successful. You will hear mentioned mostly "Take Action". I can't emphasize this enough. Just reading and not doing anything will get you nowhere.

    Best wishes!!!

Thanks very much Raj and Randy for your advice,
it really is helpful as I'm starting from the very bottom here! But hey, everyone has to start somewhere right?!
It's nice to get responses to my question ever though it was very vague! The more research and reading I do, I'm sure I'll get more specific with my questions!
I will make sure that I 'take action' as soon as I find something that I think I can do! Unfortunately I only have very limited funds to spend, so I'll have to be clever with it and not rush into buying things and spending my money!
I'm looking forward to learning as I go and earning my first $1 online!
Thanks again for your help guys and for welcoming me here, it's appreciated.

    Welcome to the WF, Ryan!

Information overload is pandemic! Which is precisely why so many people self-diagnose ADD/ADHD. It's a lethal combination, especially when it leads to paralysis-by-analysis.

The Challenge, I think, might help you get moving quickly - which is paramount, not getting every last detail absolutely perfect. (The others I'm not familiar with, so I can't comment on them.) What it does is take you step-by-step through what most of did, how most of us got started - choosing a niche we're passionate about, setting up a blog using WordPress, and primarily monetizing as an affiliate.

You do have to learn the options before you can make a rational choice, but this gives you momentum and you should see at least a tiny trickle of income before the second month.

Most people fail because they're deathly afraid of thinking for themselves, afraid they're going to make the wrong decision so they get pretty damned creative about how to weasel out of it somehow. But the truth is it's the nature of this business that your choice of niche is a very personal thing, and so it how you set it up, how you monetize it, when you take it.

In these crushing economic times, you're going to be very hard pressed to get to the monetizing part ASAP - and that's going to blow up in your face if you're not careful. STAY AWAY from the shiny new objects! And keep in mind that many of the "quick cash" methods to earn emergency funds do work - but you may not actually see the money for another two or three weeks. (Moral: don't wait until you're completely tapped out of cash!)

If you can tough it out for the first few months, you'll be well on your way to exceeding your previous income long before the end of this calendar year - if you're willing to work for it, learn from your mistakes, and keep moving toward your goals. When you're not writing content for your blog, you should be learning more about IM and particularly those options available to you, working on building your list, working on your sale funnel - something directly, unambiguously related to building your business or learning more about it.

In my opinion following one of the training courses that you have mentioned is a great start.

It will help to keep you focused on one thing rather than keep being attracted by the next 'best thing'.

You can soon get bogged down with lots of information but will have no idea how to pull it all together.

So following a proven course such as Chris Farrell or The Challenge is a great way to start your online business.

    Good Luck

Welcome Ryan and good luck! You are certainly in the right place. There are a lot of people here that are willing to help with whatever you might need. If you have any questions about IM don't hesitate to post it and you will get some good replies.

WF has a lot of great info. Chris Farrell also is great with beginners. He really explained things in a simple and easy to understand way for me.

Also, don't forget to take a break every now and then! All this information can get overwhelming. Sometimes it's good to just take a day off and let your mind comprehend what you have learned.

    All the best my friend,
    James

    hwhite, Karen and James,
Thank you all for your welcome and for you advice. It's great, I didn't expect such a good response and such great advice from such a vague post and plea for help!! But I'm getting some great advice!
I think I will be using Chris Farrell's site to learn a lot and/or The Challenge, as well as learning what I can on WF and asking questions on here if I need help or advice, I know now from the response I've had from you all that there are so many people on here who have been in my position and are more than willing to help. It's really good to know.
Thanks very much one and all.

There are lots of internet marketing methods, try to focus on one thing to start before branching out.... it all seems better then the next but you can make real money with most things...

Try and learn some useful skills... ie building backlinks, building websites, doing PPC, Social Media marketing.... etc.... pick 1 to start with and learn it in and out!

    Thanks Brent,
That's the thing.....there seem to be so many different methods of internet marketing, which is great, but it makes it hard to know where to start, where to centre my focus and attention!
It's good advice to learn some skills that are going to be of use to me as an internet marketer and even better advice to pick one skill and learn it inside out rather that learning little bits and bobs of lots of different skills!
Thanks for your advice, it's appreciated.

      hello, Elzie here

There are a ton of options out there to follow, different ways to market and sell. That can be a real problem as you have already found out. First of all find which system fits what you are looking to do. Be it article marketing, e-mail marketing, PPC or whatever. than once you have selected how you are going to start marketing, Focus on that one aspect until you have accomplished your goals in that area. Wether that is adding names to an e-mail list or making your first dollar online. Than wash, rinse and repeat. After you are comfortable with that than you can move into other areas.

One of the other suggestions is that as part of your FOCUS you need to have a set plan going in for the day. Things you want to accomplish each time you log on in the amount of time that you have set aside to work. Set a certain amount of time for each task, and try to stick to those times. It is all to easy to get distracted by those hundreds of E-mails that show up in your box daily, and some of those things look really cool but they will distract you and eat your work time away before you know it. So put your e-mails as the last thing you do in a day, or set a certain amount of time aside just for that but remember its not likely going to be making you money, so dont waste time on it.

So just remember, Schedule, Stay on the task at hand, Dont allow distractions.

Hope this is helpful, Elzie Garrett

      congratulations on your future success

    Hi Ryan,

I'm in the same boat you are in that I am looking for the best ways to learn IM.
If there is a topic I want to find out about, I use the search function right here on the WF.

Here's something that has saved me money many times - Any time I think I want to invest in a program, rather than google the title and the author (because often the reviews are hyped by affiliate marketers), I type it into the WF search. Here you can get objective opinions by people in the know. Many times they will reference other helpful programs as well.

Also, as you read this forum, you may find some members to be especially helpful. You can use the search function to find more posts by that person.

    Good luck to you!

It's nice to hear from someone in the same boat as me!
Advising me to use the search engine on the forum is really good advice, I appreciate it and will take your advice.
Good luck in your efforts to become an internet marketer. All the best.

Welcome to the WF Ryan. It's best to start with one thing and stick with it until you see success. A common mistake a lot of people new to IM make is jumping from one thing to the other when it doesn't immediately work. It's just like learning to play piano or guitar....you don't just sit down and play. It takes practice and repetition. You have to learn it.

That being said, for people new to IM I always recommend starting out by offering services. It's the best way to get up and running fast. Then you can earn as you learn. Learning without bringing money in is nice, but being able to pay bills while you get it together is much better.

I was right where you are at two years ago. Still consider myself a newbie although I do now earn enough to live on and don't have a real job anymore. My number one advice is this. DO NOT GIVE UP, DO NOT STOP! Most give up, don't!

    Hi Elzie,
Thank you very much for responding to my plea for help!! And thanks for giving me good advice, it's greatly appreciated, I think the advice to set certain amounts of time for certain tasks is great advice as it is all too easy to get distracted and before you know it an hour or two have passed!! I don't yet have the problem of hundreds of emails a day to deal with, but I'm sure I will have in the future!
One recurring piece of advice I keep getting is that in these early days to focus on one particular system/method of internet marketing and stick with it. At the moment I'm still at the stage of researching the different avenues I have to choose from! But once I do find one that I think suits me, I'll be sure to focus on it and see it through.
Thanks again for taking the time to give me advice.

Hi Jeff and Robin, thank you for responding to my plea for help and advice!
I really appreciate it as it's quite overwhelming knowing where to start, there's some much to learn and so many different choices to make....I'm definitely going to focus on one particular area of internet marketing, particularly while I'm just starting and learning, as I become more experienced I'll no doubt venture into other areas of IM, but one step at a time right!
Robin it's nice to hear that just 2 years ago you were in the same position as me and now you're able to live on the income you make from internet marketing, it's reassuring and makes me realise that it can be done. Rest assured, I won't give up! This is what I want to do!
    Cheers for the advice guys.
