    All of the above.

I launch new sites all the time and they always hit the first page of Google quickly. Sometimes just because of lack of competition, sometimes because of lots of links, sometimes because the content get republished a lot (and therefore links).

    All of the above.

Haven't noticed ranking getting harder at all.

      This ^

I was just about to write pretty much word for word the same thing.

Sometimes I have to work a little harder, adding content, building backlinks, syndication etc...

But normally do not have to wait that long - longest has been about 3 weeks to see a decent listing.

Sometimes I don't get on page 1 right away but if you keep on cracking away you get there.

I have to say that my impression's the opposite, if anything.

Sweeping away the article directories (and some similar sorts of sites) seems to have helped me to get high rankings for my own little sites - sometimes even completely unexpectedly.

My experience has been similar..One particular page on my site has floated to the first page without me trying to get it there.

Me too. One little niche site I set up 8 months ago, which, perhaps foolishly is in a niche I find very difficult to engender any real writing enthusiasm to promote big time, has suddenly moved up the rankings and begun producing some sales.

When I first set it up, I wrote 5 1,000 - 1,500 word high-quality articles and also published them on EZA, but that was it.

EMD's really ain't that important, to me at least. I prefer to go for niche websites so I can build a website around 4-8 affiliate products rather than pay each and every time I want to start affiliating a new product.

After the G update, you WILL find sites with unique content slowly rising the serps.

    Just my 2 cents..

Fresh content published (no duplicated content in site)
Socially bookmarked and shared a lot
User-friendly page design and good site speed
A few links from relevant sites

To me, it's not harder after the update. I don't have to compete against farmer sites anymore. Well, it seems like... Still trying to figure out.

Anyone share opinions about the "ads to content ratio" thing?

I've found that some of the posts I publish end up getting page 1 within a day or 2, while others take upwards of a week. Even within the same niche/competition size it's been happening since the update.

All I'm trying to do now is provide truly valuable content, send backlinks, social bookmarking and having it keyword optimized. It's getting harder for the spammy stuff to get to #1 so I'm focusing more on value-packed posts/information.

EMD = "exact match domain", i.e. something like keyword.com or longtailkeyword.com.

Ranking is pretty easy these days with for low competition keywords with just two things.

    1. Original Content
    2. EMD

For more competitive niches, simply add...

    3. Backlinks

    ... to the equation.

I have not noticed that it is harder to rank on page one, but rather, it has gotten easier--especially if you are rocking original content on the site.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I have published 3 websites last month, they are all EMD. Buy 3 quality web content each website and made some onpage optimization for every site. I posted 1 article on EZA for each website then leave them alone.

After I checked their rankings last week, the two websites are on page one and the other one is at page 3.

They might be at low competition but I think they have potentials

In my on experience after panda update I feel so easy to rank site right after homepage rank up to #1 position with main keyword. Lets say I want to add post that laser targeted with another keyword that still related with main keyword and within 2 days it stay on page 1 or 2 without doing any dirty job (link campaign) it's awesome
