Should I Protect Related Domains to Mine?

I have a weird situation here. My primary site is "homebrewaudio.com." Someone contacted me on behalf of an investment company in Asia that wants to register "Home Brew Audio" as a network brand name along with:

homebrewaudio.asia
homebrewaudio.cn
homebrewaudio.com.cn
homebrewaudio.net
homebrewaudio.net.cn
homebrewaudio.org
homebrewaudio.org.cn
homebrewaudio.hk
homebrewaudio.tw

The "Senior Consultant of domain name registration and solution center in shanghai, china" is if I would be willing to let her client register these, or if I would like to protect them. Of course she is "offering" to register the names for me if I do want to protect them (shyaa!).

My instinct is not to bother protecting those other domains. What do folks here think? Is this just some ploy to get me to pay for registering domains I don't need?

And advice from the experienced domain mavens welcomed!

Thanks,

Ken

If the name is important to you, it might be worthwhile to pick up the .net and .org names on your own.

    Yup.

That's a scam email to get you to buy the domains.
    I've had several also.
    Just ignore them.

The only two I'd dream of registering "protectively" (and that would be through Namecheap, not through anyone sending me an unsolicited email!) are the .net and the .org, and I don't always do that.

I routinely register the .com and the .info (in my case, typically the .info to use and the .com "protectively" and to redirect to the .info I'm using). And I look at the .net and the .org and think "Well, shall I ...?" And I never know the answer.

Whoa companies stoop that low?! I suppose it would work if you like your domain name...

Just a side note, you can take a snippet of any email you get offering to sell you domain names etc. and Google it. Though it will not always show up, a lot of the time it will. And you will see that the offer is a scam.
