Can't Monetize a 5,500 unique visitors/month blog

Hi everybody,

I read this forum a lot, but didn't have the opportunity to write posts yet.
Anyway, I began my journey in the onine marketing world about 8 months ago, without any previous knowledge. I've opened-up a wordpress blog about dating and pick-up for men.

I was told by many people that it's a very competitive market, but once you get enough traffic, the reward (conversion, sales, etc) will be very high.

So I opened this blog, and I wrote tens of posts and Q&A's, got about 30 quality links (mainly by guest posting and article directories).
Today I have around 150-180 unique visitor per days from a large number of keywords, and this number is growing every week.

I also know it's not that important, but I got already a PR 2, which I am very proud of.
So it feels to me that increasing the number of visitors is not a problem.

However, my problem is with monetizing these visitors, who are very specific (all of them are men who want to improve their communication skills with the opposite sex).

By the way, the blog address is luvblogger dot com

My idea to monetize this traffic was to create a pop-up, that suggests the visitors to move on to my "full guide to success with women". However, no matter how I tried various popups, my current on is the best, and gets about 10% of the traffic to the blog. is it a good number? or not? to me it seems very low.

And then, I began writing the guide, but it seems visitors just go to the first age of the guide, and exit. my bounce rate on the guide is about 85%. It's even higher than the bounce rate of the blog (about 70%).

What am I doing wrong? Is there a guide that teachs how to make a good pop-up that people will click more? And what about the guide? I believe it's a high quality one.

Help will be appreciated.

I would recommend you to focus a bit on improving your salescopy / advertisements. They were kinda weak IMO, also the name of your guide etc could be changed up and improved. Tweak!

You could also try affiliate marketing, try some product out and see if it converts better then your own stuff.

I absolutely second this! If you look at what is happening you can see where your pain is at. As was mentioned if you focus on your salescopy/ads then your click thru will go up, but you still may lack conversion, in that case it would be your offerings or landing pages, which is where affiliate marketing is key. If it is the other way around then it is totally the Sales/AD copy not even being clicked. Hope this makes sens

yea definitely drop that pop-up at the start. Without having the background around it fade to black it just muddles the layout of your page. Plus immediate popups are obnoxious for readers. If you really want to go the pop-up route then have it timed so that they read your articles for 30 seconds or what not so they see that they like the content, then have the popup come up and have the message emphasize how it's related to the subject of your blog site.

Adsense should work for you. Since the site's very text based I would maybe give infolinks a shot. It's in-text links and actually has a good payout relative to other non adsense ad networks.

Well, I saw your site and got a pop-up thrown in the face... I immediately left.

A pop-up is the worst idea to monetize a site. It only works if you have millions of visitors...

Since I have good luck with Adsense I think with number visitor you get per day you can make good income with adsense. Try to put Adsense in your site and see the result if you think income that you get from it not as you expected you can try to sell ebook on CJ and lets other work hard to promote your product.

I took a look at your site and honestly I was surprised at how nice looking it was. You really seem to offer a lot of valuable content to your readers. If you are in the U.S. be sure to add your Disclosure and a Privacy Policy is a good idea and essential if you opt to add Adsense.

All that said, here is why I think you are not making any money....

You just are not giving readers the opportunity to buy!

Simple as that. Yes you have your ebook on the side, so someone can look an get a few pages of info. but really you need to be more obvious in what you have to offer!

You have the pop up but that appears to be turning people off. So anyone that does take time to look at your pages really is not seeing anything to buy!

Get a link to the ebook you are offering and post it at the top of the articles and below (you can use a plug in to save you doing this manually) and say something like..

Ready To blah blah blah and blah? Order Your Hot Dating Guide (or whatever) here!

Throughout your articles pop in some links to Amazon etc. For example you mention an author and quote him...link to him at Amazon.

Get some product reviews up of hot sellers that can make a man sexier than ever and link to them.

Bottomline...put some stuff on their and make it irresistible to your buyers!

Direct your readers to the actions you want them to take.

Just a few tweaks and your site can very likely SIZZLE with SALES!

    Hey,

Firstly, LilBlackDress is correct in saying that you need to give people more opportunities to buy (without overdoing it, of course).

Also, get Pop Up Dominator. It will cost you a bit, but can help you in the long run (it's recommended by many)

    3) Make your whole banner clickable. I wanted, personally, to click "on the girl." Also, make sure that the word "FREE" comes up mich higher (where "How To Approach" stands)

    4) A tip from a guy from Viral Marketing : ViperChill . Create a "Start Here" page. According to him, this will make your visitors to stick longer with you.

    5) Put an Opt-in form on the sidebar. If you are a blogger, email marketing should be in your arsenal. If you are likeable, your 1 email can bring you a lot of money.

Also, use Pop Up Dominator (or any other plugin) to collect emails when people are visiting.

    6) Your Pop-ups are annoying as hell. Tweak it a little so it won't show every time i try to read a post.

That's about it... if anything else comes to my mind I will tell you.

One of the things you have to understand about this market is that, who are you are makes a difference.

Who are you? How good are you with women?

You can't just put up a site, and expect men to buy.

The pop-up is not the problem. The content inside pop-up is the problem.

Your initial content is a problem too. I can tell you upfront that you need to understand the market better.

What you have now will make a typical man say"Why is there so much information I can't use?"

"I know I don't try! I don't try because I don't know what to do, I don't think she will like me, I'm a virgin, she has a boyfriend, I'm to young, I'm too old....

What's the thing that works every time? How can I make sure I don't make a fool out of myself? Why is that she wants him but not me?"

    So on, and so forth.

If you really want to make this money you can, but you need to change your strategy.

If your traffic is from "buying countries" you can make some good money within the next few months.

How much effort are you willing to put into this?

BTW some of your links don't work.

Yes things such as popups can mean people close the site as it is a rather cheap way of getting somebody to look at something. It brings me to the sites that offer you a special offer when you try and close the website, so pointless... if anything they make you want to exit even more, its also rather desperate and tacky dont do it!

You've got some really great stuff, here. The PUA market was how I discovered WF, actually. If you want some really GREAT sales copy to add to your swipe file, you should read everything David DeAngelo (Eben Pagan) does. You've probably seen it, but it's doubleyourdating dot com. I swear he's a copy genius.

As to your site, you DO have a lot of good stuff here. What I don't see is a page about "recommended reading". Guys in the PUA niche LOVE to read. Put up a suggested books page with amazon affiliate links in your top bar, then post a paragraph review next to each listed book.

For monetizing traffic with your own product, the biggest thing you're missing is just what lilblackdress pointed out, and opportunity to buy. You give people that with a strong call to action. Tell them what you want them to do in your ads. "Click Here to Order" is cliche, but it's survived because it works.

Next, most PUA gurus are profitable because they build great relationships with their lists. I didn't see a list signup form on here. You can set up an autoresponder with a link to your articles with a brief blurb. Reciprocity ensues, and people will be BEGGING you to sell them something. That way you can recycle your old traffic as well as attract new visitors, see?

And seriously, dude, get rid of that popup. I feel like you're trying to sell me before you've proved you know what you're talking about. Part of the reason this niche is so competitive is that there's so much crap out there. You don't have crap here. This is good quality stuff. Give people a chance and they'll see it.

    You know what...

Sometimes it feels like Warriors just like to flatter each other.

What's so great about the content on the site? Yeah, maybe in the 90's when there was nothing else, this would have worked.

Comparing to the competition it is very, very weak. I'm not saying this to put the OP down. It's just the reality.

If you want to make money, you have to improve your game. (IM game i.e)
The pop-up (or hover box) may work better if:

    1. You changed the headline,
    2. Changed the bullets
    3. Used it as a sign up form
    4. Made it not to show on every single page.

Everybody uses hovers to build their lists, I don't see why there are so many people talking against it in this post.

Your site is neat and clean and has good navigation.

I agree with the others regarding the pop ups. That would tick me off big time as a visitor. I would probably use an exit pop up to get the visitor to subscribe. I guess you can use the sidebar to have another opt-in form and also field a CPA offer for a good dating site.

You're getting some good traffic and as you say this is improving. Try to get people on your list and have an effective autoresponder to convert them with quality offers.

Wish you luck with the site.

    Cheers

    I have been to website

I like the look and feel of your website and the quality pictures that you have

here are some suggestions i think will help

    1. Let the pop over happen 10 seconds after they visit your site

    2. Capture the names and email address of your visitors so that you build a relationship and sell them to them when you have got a product

    3. Don't give too much information in one day . I went through your guide it was very long . 3 or 4 headlines and then get them subscribe to your list or buy a product that would help them
