How does coupon & deal sites get their data?

Hi, I'm thinking to start a coupon and deal site, and wondering how and where they get the data from? I'm assuming it should be automatic from some kind of feed or affiliate urls. Does anyone know?

This is a very good question. I too would like to know the answer to this. Obviously name recognition works, e.g. Groupon, LivingSocial, etc., but what about the little guy?

These companies use their startup money to put out ads telling business owners that they can get a lot of traffic to their sites and stores by posting deals on these sites like groupon.

The service works by companies posting huge discounts, in hopes of getting new "repeat" customers and so far it's working pretty well. A lot of money is spent on name recognition for these sites like groupon and they require an email from each visitor and they email that list every day with new deals, you can see how lucrative this is for everyone.

Yep there are feeds that you can purchase that will automatically populate your sites via API's/RSS feeds.

I'm blanking on the number one site that offers this right now, but its pretty expensive (close to $1,000/mo.!)
