Hi all. I'm not quite sure I belong here. I joined a few moments ago, and all the posts I see from "newbies"... they already have things working for them.

Please let me know if there's a ultra-newbie section or links I should refer to first, to avoid asking seven million inane questions and annoying you vets.

I have a small personal blog that I'd like to expand, move to wordpress and monetize. The blog is random but has a focus of hair(which I could expand to beauty/health/wellness), and baby stuff (which I could expand as well).

Additionally, I recently began working part time as a life coach and feel that this is an area that I could really use to generate income outside of the one-to-one coaching. I haven't yet created any tangible products to sell...nor have I created a useful website. (just a static informative one for now).

I'd really appreciate some ideas on where to start. I currently do reviews on my personal blog, so I thought perhaps reviewing products and including my affiliate link would be a good beginning.

Learning seo, and how to build wordpress sites (i've purchased thesis and hosting already) is my next step. Let me know if you see holes in my "plan" so far. Anything you'd suggest?

Any links I should check asap?

Thanks in advance!

Start somewhere. Anywhere. Don't try to build the Taj Mahal at this point. Building a site that you're interested in and can learn with is what you need now. Make 1 site and start doing things with it - create content, promote it, etc.

Thank you. I guess this is my plan. I'd rather start somewhere versus anywhere though
I've got so much reading to do!

    Hello and welcome.

From reading your post, you do belong here.

There are many newbies who do not have things working for them yet, but they have a plan.

    So do you.

You want to move your blog to a wp blog. That is a good first step. You stated your goal and defined how you will accomplish it.

I spent several weeks here reading everything I could to further my education. You can do the same.

You do not need tangible products to sell to make money online.

There is so much information on this forum, it can be overwhelming. I made the mistake of trying to take in too much and was on information overload. Limit your time here to read and then take some time off here to learn what you have read.

I purchased one WSO - warrior special offering - and not the ones that claim you can make X amount of dollars in an hour! But rather one that was similar to my business plan so I can see what a competitor was doing. I would stay clear of WSOs until you are able to define exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish.

    Good luck!
    Stay positive.
    You can do this.

I agree that moving your blog over to wordpress is a great first step. I am pretty new to using wordpress myself, but since I started using it I have had a much easier time monetizing my blog. I am not sure which hosting service you are planning to use to host your wordpress blog at, but I used hostgator and found some great video tutorials online on setting up my blog using hostgator. I also know there are similar video tutorials online for setting up wordpress on other hosting services. I think you will find that it is easy to do when you decide to do it. I have noticed that many hosting services have one click install buttons for wordpress from the control panel of the hosting service. Also with your plans of what your blog is about might I suggest using an autoresponder and putting a capture form on your blog to build a list of people who are interested in what you write about. This way you can keep the interested people updated when you do new blog posts and maybe send these people a weekly newsletter. Building your own mailing list will also help you to further monetize your blog.

The life coaching does seem like it could really be the winner. I'm certified, but no expert yet. I'm finishing up a masters in counseling to add to my "clout" if you will .
I'd love to be able to market mental health/wellness products/programs and earn income outside of the one-to-one, but am not sure how to begin. I guess the website is step one. And finding the right products is step two.

I thought the baby/mommy area was a more profitable niche though.
      Any thoughts? ideas?

      Thanks!!

Dangle you seem like a nice guy ....welcome to the forum mate.
(I do hope you are male - forgive me otherwise )

Whilst I haven't researched any of the niches you've mentioned, I would confidently say that you would be better off focusing your attention to life coaching, mental health and wellness.

        For 3 reasons .....

        1. You're certified. You're not just an internet marketer from Bangladesh pushing some crappy affiliate offer. Being certified builds credibility. With that comes trust. With trust comes a network of people. A big list and of course, buyers

        2. Anyone in this business KNOWS that there's big money to be made in coaching. Forget about promoting $12 ebooks on hair gel. Unless of course that's what you want to do.

        3. The opportunities to FURTHER MONETIZE this particular niche (life coaching, personal development, mental health etc) are enormous. Sure, you might sell one or two baby rattles - but then what? What you must do is THINK AHEAD. "...Okay, Ive just built a list of people interested in my dvd series based on life coaching for $197, I bet a lot of them would be interested in say, time management, or confidence building etc etc"

        You dig?

Try to keep your topics to a per site basis. In other words .. it will be easier to optimize a hair site and a different baby site as opposed to having one site handle two very different niches.

I'd like to go a different direction and say that hair just might be big business . . . IF you were to find a way to assist non-chain-store beauty supply stores with their advertising. To that end, it is a very unique niche within offline marketing.

I have gone into beauty supply stores, seen hair products (not hair care, but hair add-ins for weaves and the like) and been frustrated at not being able to get them to work when I got home. Sounds simple, just put it on your head and tuck your hair in and that's it. But some of the products are not that simple to make stay in place and look realistic. The people in the shops are good at it . . . after years of selling them! But I think there is a strong market for creating how-to videos for newer customers, which would draw a lot of traffic to a local beauty supply business website. There's making the videos (flip cams aren't that expensive but yield high return to you), there's maintenance of the site and the comments you might have beneath the videos, there's market segmentation that most people don't think about that can lead to OTHER profitable niches that people overlook.

I think most of the people here who are discounting the hair niche are not aware that some of the products in the hair industry cost hundreds of dollars, depending on the type of hair. Human hair products are quite expensive!

I'm not saying that being a life coach is necessarily a bad thing. It might actually be a better way to go. But don't automatically discount the hair niche. Depending on how you go at it, it just might have a faster track to profitability. And the maintenance can most likely be outsourced, freeing up time to do other things, including being a life coach.

Thanks!! The hair idea is interesting, but I think is something I can do on a smaller scale with my personal blog since it's fairly random. I can keep incorporating hair posts and affiliate products/links there instead of making a new site for it....but it is something to ocnsider. perhaps after I've gotten a hang of this I can have multiple sites in multiple niches.

I agree with Ramone Johnny--life coaching is an area where you already have credentials and expertise and it offers a TON of opportunities for expanding into related areas.

One of the things I do (offline) is ghostwrite health, wellness, and productivity newsletters and fact sheets for employee wellness programs.

There is an endless amount of content that you can generate in these areas. Brainstorming new content is easy--just set up a yahoo or msn homepage to take in RSS feeds from sources that cover these topics: blogs, newsfeeds, HR newslettters, etc...

Now you've got a daily source of inspiration.

Start using them to generate content for your blog. Once you've got some traffic, start list building by adding an optin box to your blog. The general tactic is to offer a free ebook or something of value in exchange for your readers' email addresses.

Then you put them into an autoresponder like aweber and start emailing them articles and content, mixing in product pitches for related affiliate products that you make commission on.

If you're worried about generating all that extra content, don't be. Most of your blog content can be repurposed for your autoresponder. Most people won't take the time to read all of your blog posts, so it's fine if you resend it to them via email.

I absolutely agree with keeping your personal site personal.

After you decide on a niche, take some time to do your keyword research. Find several different "Long Tail" (3 to 4 words) keyword phrases that are generating a solid amount of monthly search traffic. Then, try to secure a ".com" using the keyword phrase that is the most popular in the monthly search.

Try to stick with ".com" if you can. That is the first thing web users think of when they are looking for a particular item.

    Hi Dangle,
I found your question whilst looking for anything to help 'newbies' as I too am fairly new.

I found an easy solution by building my first website with 'site-sell' and am still learning so much. It is about my love for French recipes. This was and still is, a start. Then I put google adsense on it.

However, I came across Tiffany Dow's website about writing PLR and as I love writing, this seemed a good choice for me too. But, not being very technical minded (which is why I use site sell as they give you all the tools needed) I was still not able to follow all Tiffanys instructions on how to build the wordpress stuff etc. This is not Tiffanys fault - mine entirely. So, as I did'nt want to waste any more time I went ahead with my plan to start writing plr but continued with site-sell and have only just put up my new website.

I have seen here in the forums that some dislike site-sell but for people like myself it is a Godsend as otherwise I would still be procrastinating!

I am quite happy spending my time learning and above all taking my time. I will get there in the end lol but if you have skills in doing wordpress etc I suggest you take a look at what Tiffany Dow teaches and you will learn so much from her.

    Good luck.

    Hi Dangle-

Don't worry about being a really new newbie. Sometimes newbies on the board look very accomplished because they were doing IM for quite a while before finding WF.

This link is for what some consider very good threads to read:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...2-24-11-a.html

I alway look for threads with gold stars as these have been voted by peers as good information. Sometimes it is hero worship but usually it is good stuff.

Join the Warrior Forum. I have not done that yet but plan to very soon. It is a very reasonable price and from what I hear that is where the really good stuff is.

Welcome and no need to be nervous.

You've been given some great advice already. If you're a life coach put up a blog about how to improve your life, get your clients to visit, refer their friends, etc... Put up a Facebook page for your coaching. Go on Clickbank and look for self help guides to offer you clients and web visitors.

Eventually offer tips and advice on Youtube and in articles at Ezine. Before you know it you've doing IM and launching your very first ebook.

Just take action, baby steps at first and then bigger ones down the road. Remember we have to start somewhere and it all starts with a small action.

And you do belong here btw

You must get your direction right in the first place. It is not just creating blog or website. you don't want to waste your time writing again and again but has no income generated which is your primary goal of begin with online marketing. Sharing your info in the blog which related to some products will help you to make money online.

Starting with your interests in mind is definitely a good choice.

When you can write from experience and enjoy the process, people will feel that when they read your posts.

Passion is a great draw card, and if you are passionate about your blog, and it sounds like you are, then you're on the right course.

Take a look at this simple blog.

To start with, I don't know this girl, and I'm not advocating or promoting what she's doing, but I read an article about her humble beginnings, and she just posts about things that matter to her, and experiences that are part of her every day life.

She gets traffic from all over the world, and although she's only been at it for a short time, she's doing well with her blog.

    Take a look:

    my darling lemon thyme

Again, this is just an example of someone who writes about what she likes, and she discovered that a lot of other people like what she likes...and the traffic just comes naturally...organically.

Just a few thoughts, and good luck with your blog : )

I suggest picking up a popular course on the WSO section of this forum.

    Studying it and TAKING ACTION.

You WILL FAIL at first but keep taking action, fine tune the method and learn from your failures.

    Cheers,

    ~Gary

I haven't yet created any tangible products to sell...nor have I created a useful website. (just a static informative one for now).

I'd really appreciate some ideas on where to start. I currently do reviews on my personal blog, so I thought perhaps reviewing products and including my affiliate link would be a good beginning.

Learning seo, and how to build wordpress sites (i've purchased thesis and hosting already) is my next step. Let me know if you see holes in my "plan" so far. Anything you'd suggest?

Any links I should check asap?

Maybe you could start with your blog right now instead of focusing on cretaing a website where you haven't have any product or service to sell. Don't push yourself too much as to monetizing your blog. Try to read about AdSense since your blog is currently focusing on information gateway. if you have well written and good content in your blog, many would look into it and start advertising on it. Focus first on improving your content and after sometime, I think you would be ready to create a website that would cater your "tangible" products/sevices. IMO.

The thing about Wordpress is you can start ugly. Just get the blog started. It's very easy to change the theme once you decide which theme you like. You're not locked into any theme. You can change it as many times as you need to get a good looking blog. Just get the content in there to start with.

First thing to learn would be to start your own thread when you want to ask a question.

This make things much easier to follow for the rest of use.

You already have 2 very good ideas. Hair/Beauty/Wellness is a very popular niche. Building an info product on your life coaching expertise would also be a good idea. If it's too much for you to develop both ideas, just choose one.

I've been most successful selling my own products, so I'd probably be building a dynamite life coaching product to sell.

    If I was starting out

I would learn the basics of the following things

    Domain name registration
    cPanel dashboard
    Wordpress installation from cPanel
    Wordpress themes

Making a website is the foundation for everything you will do.

    Sales pages
    Membership sites
    Blogs
Static pages can even be made with Wordpress

Wordpress has plugins for everything especially SEO related

Don't buy anything at first just do it manually and use freebies so you can get used to the process.

You will end up buying and buying and buying if you buy one thing. Don't listen to all thehype about "INSTANT SUCCESS" this road is hard and long and you really want to pray about it long before entering in because it is essentially like deciding to go to a 4-year college for any degree..

It will take that much work and effort.

Best thing I can say is get a realistic idea of what this is like.

Balance your reading 30 with action 70%

Buy physical books from Amazon for used prices that way you aren't reading on the Computer which can A) Be annoying on the eyes and B) Allow you to click click click on everything and end up with information overload

    Books on:

    Web design
Sales letters (Do a warrior search for intitle Books on this forum)
    SEO
Graphic design (Even a Dummies book is good)
Marketing (I like Duct tape marketing)

Then get a Google calendar and set up a schedule for the next 4 months of what you will be learning, what you will be reading, and how long each day you will be working on it.

Don't expect any sales or income for at least 1 year that sounds harsh but really, this will be a safe blanket. Basically keep your day-job unless you have enough money to live cheaply while you are learning this.

    Alright.

I can help you in the area of WordPress. You are on the right track although you should try not to take on too many things at the same time. Just concentrate on one area at a time and learn all there is to know, then move on to the next Good luck.

Thank you all SO much for the info.

Razza I really appreciate your post.

I am going to start with my coaching site/blog since that's my major offline venture anyway and my personal blog (just adding a bit more amazon links on it, and using SEO tools when I move it to wordpress nothing major there) and once I've learned tons and feel more comfortable (waaaay down the line) I'll go the way of the multiple niche sites if I choose to.

You all are SUPER wonderful and really helpful. thank you all so much!

    Hi Dangle,

I just wanted to add something that I notice here. What is the big picture?
Do you see your life coaching as a business? What kind of business? where are the money going to come from?

From reviews of amazon products? From one on one coaching?

First of all welcome to this forum. I recently joined as well and my impression of the forum so far is that it consist of like-minded people like you and me who all have a passion of making it in this industry. Just by signing up to this forum shows me that you have what it takes to be successful. You are willing to learn, that really is huge key to being successful. And you know what, you might not know much about network marketing but you know how to be a life coach, you know some about hair products etc. those prospects you are chasing are someone who are looking for your advice your expertize. That alone gives you a head start. You know more about this than much people. Rome wasn't build in a day, but brick by brick and it all started with the foundation. That is where you are know, you need to lay your foundation for your business.

My first advice to make a plan for your goals. Right now it might seem like a waste of time, since you don't much about network marketing, but believe it is worth your time in the long run. That is what you need you need to have a plan for the long run. I always direct people to Frank Kern's seminar/course, whatever you might call it, entitled Core Influence. Search for it on google, as I cannot yet post links on the forum.

It is absolutely free and it is a perfect video for when you are new to this business.

After that I would as many of the other members have suggested, stay focused on one thing. Do you want to learn SEO. The learn all you can about SEO and become an expert in that particular area. Then you can move to other areas.

Hope this helps and always feel free to ask any questions.
Good luck with you business !

Hi Lovelysue - Thanks for asking.

My life coaching is my main business currently. The big picture is life coaching and counseling to a specific low-socioeconomic population that will likely not be able to pay me well. This (aside from raising a happy family) is what I will be devoting my life to as an "offline" career.

I intend for the main source of my money to come from online pursuits so i can spend more time doing good. From what I've learned so far, it seems the best bet for me would be niche amazon and other affiliate sites, as well as using my coaching site to sell products.
