Viral Youtube video gets over 8400 views per day - Over 1 MILLION since February!

I have a relative with a Youtube video thats gone viral with well over 1 MILLION VIEWS since last February. I'm going to offer to buy this from them. If they sell it to me, then I'll have a link to a site at the beginning of the videos description.

How would you monetize a Youtube video that gets about 8400 views per day? Would you have a super simple ugly site so visitors click on Adsense or an affiliate link? Or would you have a larger non-ugly content site with articles and affiliate links?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

    Steve,

Wouldn't the subject of the video have a large part in the monitization outcome?

Can you find products that are natural associations to the video, or is the video pure sillyness like most of the viral videos out there?

In other words, if it's a skateboarding video, as an example, links to skateboarding items may be appropriate, but if it's a guy slipping on butter his roommate smeared on the floor out of spite a link to "Land-O-Lakes" might produce nothing.

Yes, I can have a website that would be relevant to the subject matter of the video.

I don't know if I'd consider 7 thousand views a day viral, but it's certainly a popular video. You could do alright with that, but don't expect to make a fortune out of it. You might be able to turn over 2-3 sales a day at most with that sort of traffic on YT (IMO).

A viral video, IMO, would be getting 500,000+ views for a day for at least a couple weeks.

Sorry but I need to keep this quiet for now.

I get your point, but anything that gets thousands of views a day without the help of backlinks, seo, and/or advertising is pretty dang viral to me. What I like is that the traffic has been consistently growing each month.

I had few of those a while back and monetized it with a free blackberry CPA offer and made some good money. I loved YT marketing and wish I had more time to do it more.

Sign up with a CPA company and put a email submit there in the annotation.. easy peasy..$30 dollars a day minimum.. so much money lost on the table..

When you say "email submit" as an annotation, are you talking about an optin form?

I would put up a nice site with adsense as a test. That's the easiest way to make some cash because it has the least amount of steps for visitors to do.

Start testing adsense and get more people to post the video link, and write more article that have the video link in the bio box.

Use your description to direct to affiliate offers! Just have start thinking creatively.

I would monetize using a CPA offer, because of the nature of the traffic. What is the video about btw ?

Well, they don't want to sell me their Youtube channel but they will let me monetize the traffic for a percentage of the revenue so I'm looking at CPA offers right now.

How much of a percentage do you think would fly for a situation like this? 50/50? They own the channel and the videos and I have the expertise to monetize the traffic. Yes its true they could dump me at anytime and do this stuff themselves (or pay someone else to do it) cuz this ain't rocket science you know, but I'm hoping that since its family they won't do that.

What do you think? 60/40 with me getting 60%, or 50/50 or??

      Thanks

        Steve,

Thinking long term regarding the split, two things come to mind...

The better the deal you create for them the longer the partnership may last. As you stated, "its true they could dump me at anytime and do this stuff themselves".

The second and more beneficial concept for you is the ability to get one of these under your belt. The first pickle is always the hardest to get out of the jar.

Once you've gone through the exercise of successfully completing a JV with someone else's video content you can move on to replicate that success. That could become a good source of revenue going forward.

Yes I have heard of it. They aren't using it though and I'm thinking that high paying CPA offers could be more profitable than the Youtube Partner Program. Am I right or wrong about this? Any thoughts?

Why do you feel it is the best way to monetize a Youtube channel?

And how can I make the Youtube Partner thing work if I'm not the owner of the Youtube channel?

      I doubt it.

When the video is embedded in dozens/hundres of sites, your running banners on those sites through the video.

I think your underestimating the power of being a youtube partner.

By the way Cool Hand Luke, are you a youtube partner?

Na its not hard to do.

Once your in the youtube partner program, google tries to run targeted ads. That way you dont have to try and target a certain audience.

I see Youtube videos with a horizontal ad on top of them that you can leave there, click the "x" to remove it, or click through the ad to check it out. Is that ad I'm seeing part of the Youtube Partner Program?

Again, the reason I don't want to push the Youtube Partner Program for them because it pretty much puts me out of the loop since they won't sell me the video channel.

Yes, the ad in the video, ad to the right of the video, and the banner on the persons profile is part of the partner program.

Yeah if you're not the owner of the channel that wouldn't work. If you're just purchasing access to the video, I'd make sure you have access for a period of time instead of a 1 time access to change the description.

That way you can test out different offers, annotation timing, and stuff like that.

Like others have said, I'd find or craft an offer that's related to the video itself. Then I'd put the link to that offer first thing in the description, and also say "Click the link below to learn how to..." or something like that in an annotation.

Try out an offer for a week, then try out a different one for another week. Find what works best and stick with that!

That's a great point Bill Farnham made. If this deal works out, you can then contact other YouTube members with high-traffic videos and explain how you worked with viral videos before and can make them a win-win deal. That's a great idea. I'm sure there are thousands and thousands of high-traffic videos not being monetized properly.

In my opinion, adsense would work best. Just check how much the keyword(s) of your niche pay. You would just need a simple blog IMO, with adsense all over it.
