      MalwareBytes has been around forever.

Seriously doubt if Jake has a stake in it.

He would have been like 12 when it came out. :p

    Thanks for that Jake.

I knew someone more technically advanced than myself could interpret it.

I thought it curious that they named the javascript file after something that all programmers recognize.

Quite frankly, I don't think it was an individual. There are bots out there that are capable of doing this themselves and moving on. Scary, I know.

This is a great maintenance tip regardless of WarriorPlus. MalwareBytes is one of the 1st pieces of software I install on my PC (and every family member that every calls me for "help").

Yep - They are one of the best too. Their team is absolutely brilliant too. Everyone there that works as a programmer has a clear understanding of the important stuff like LSP hijacks, SSDT hooking, Bayesian classification, etc. Smart guys for sure.

Thanks for the warning and solution.

In case anyone is put off by the "buy the full version" notice, thinking the free version will be not as good, I downloaded the free version and after it installed and updated I was immediately offered a free trial of the full version.

Nope, the free version is just as good. Paid version just has active monitoring. If you want to buy it, it's your call.

I am still using the free version after many years.

It has saved my butt more than once.

From a personal standpoint, I hate Norton anyways.

I cannot give you an honest answer when it comes to that. It really
depends on how advanced the technique was, but from the looks of
it, this one wasn't advanced at all. I would NEVER depend on an Anti-
virus 100% for many reasons, one of which is it cannot stop outbound
connections. The only thing that can stop outbound connections would
be a firewall. In order to keep this short, I'll just recommend you use
MalwareBytes to scan your computer. It's your call really.

Various AV software packages do a good job at stopping viruses.

They are not so good with Spyware and Malware. Therefore, MalwareBytes should always be included to take care of some of those things that the AV companies cannot handle for you.

Another possible addition, at least I have purchased a copy, is PrevX. I have been hit several times by an ornery and nasty little virus that only PrevX could handle.

I don't remember what the virus is called, but it demonstrates itself by pretending to be an AV software telling you that you have dozens of viruses and trying to force you to upgrade to their Paid Version, which is nothing more than a credit card phishing scam.

PrevX knocks those guys out every time.

Okay will do. I assume I need to disable Norton when I run malwarebytes. Hmmm - I connected to WarriorPlus at my office on a computer that has an external firewall. I'll run malwarbytes there too.

    Thanks

      Hi Don,

No need to disable your Anti-virus while running your scan.

Funny, I was getting security alerts on my PC today when I was navigating in the affiliates section. It was auto block alerts popping up at me.

I honestly thought it strange at the time.

I did do full norton AV scan since, but will need to do a malware scan now!

I am curious to know if we have actual confirmation on this issue from the website owner otherwise it would be rather imprudent to assume without knowing for sure, not saying anything bad here just interested in if we have confirmation from someone with full access to the website, like the owner for example?

    Thanks for the heads up.

Not sure what you mean by the above comment? I know it is for the mods but what is that referring to?

Maybe Mike should send out an email to the WSO of the day list letting everyone know about this problem?

What kind of virus is that?

What is it supposed to do?

How exactly could my PC have been infected, is it by downloading
a file from WarriourPlus or just by accessing WarriorPlus?

It looks it's not really a virus... "just" a malicious script.

Users get stuff infected all the time at work with crap. I use a combination of Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

Those two together usually take care of about 99% of the crap that people get. Occasionally, we run across something like what Bill was talking about. I just reimage the box in those cases and give the end user a loaner pc that is dog slow. If they complain to their supervisor I just let them know that there's a pretty good chance that their guy was looking at porn while at work.

Did Mike ever send anything out to make people aware of this issue?

I doubt he'll send out a letter saying it has been effected. So far, he has been extremely quiet with his small, non-detailed responses.
