Ebay Affiliate questions

Hey guys, just wanted to ask a few questions about the ebay affiliate program. I tried calling ebay and going on their websites looking at their FAQ's, unfortunately both weren't very helpful. My questions are:

1. Do you still get paid when people sign up for an ebay account through your link? If you do get paid for this, is it solely for them creating an account or because they performed a certain type of action like buying or selling a product?

2. Do you still get a commission for any sales made through your link? If so, what are the commissions exactly?

3. I realize they now have CPC method, how frequently does that change? It says you get paid daily for this. The better the traffic, the more you get paid per click.

4. Do you have to advertise or promote certain auctions/buy it now items or can you just promote the site in general?

5. Do you still get commissions if a customer purchases the deals of the day through your link?

Thank you for all the help!

Hi, I don't pretend to be an EPN guru - I have the same love-hate relationship with EPN that most affiliates do, and many things still mystify me about the program.

Having said that, I will try to answer your questions:

    1. Yes, the concept of an ACRU still exists - i.e. the new user has to sign up AND perform some action (i.e. bid). However, you do NOT get a nice $25 payout like you used to - eBay got sick of being defrauded for millions of dollars, weird that! But it DOES get factored into the mysterious, spooky Quality Click Pricing algorithm. Nobody really knows how, but I DO get a healthy spike when it happens. Trouble is, it's not often a visitor to my site is NOT already an eBay buyer, so these are quite rare for me...

    2. The million-dollar question. No, you do not get a commission per se - not in the sense like you do with Amazon etc. However, the sales you generate are factored into the QPC (CPC) algorithm in some mysterious way and you get an increase in your CPC. Provided you are getting consistent sales, I find that the value of the "commissions" ends up being AT LEAST what it would have been under the old tiered system - you can dig out some old info on that but it used to be something like up to 50% of what eBay earns from the sale, I analysed it once but can't remember off the top of my head.

    3. You mean how often does the CPC change? Well, if you are getting consistent sales in a particular niche it tends to stay fairly steady, which is what you want. If you get no sales for a few days it divebombs. How exactly it is calculated, nobody knows (maybe not even EPN ). You are not "paid daily" in the sense of a daily payout. It's just that your earnings are finalised on a daily basis, like most affiliate programs. The "better the traffic" - yes, what exactly that means, no-one knows. But consistent, buying traffic is what it is all about (and buying reasonably high-ticket items, not $1 stuff) - but that is what you want anyway, right?

    4. No, you shouldn't promote eBay in general - you get the highest CPC for sales in specific categories that you have promoted. I don't think it drills down as far as specific items, although using the plugin I wrote I do tend to promote specific items. But eBay specifically say that simply promoting the eBay homepage is discouraged and is not considered quality traffic. There are sometimes nice bonuses for sales in specific categories that they want to promote.

    5. I don't promote deals of the day, but as far as I know, yes, there is no reason why not. You should maybe double check that.

Hope that helps, maybe I can help more if you have any specific questions, although, like I say, much of it is still a mystery even to us affiliates..!

Me too, except my relationship with ePN is a hate-hate one.

I wouldn't participate at all except that I have an old website that still gets traffic for the Bay. And I have a Fiverr gig that relates to ePN.

For the OP's sake, let me reiterate what you said: Nobody really knows how payment per click is calculated under Quality Click Pricing. I get clicks anywhere from 10 to 13 cents. As you can see from this I'm not exactly spending my spare time yacht-shopping.

Thank you for the great response it is very helpful. With the old system you say it was 50% of ebay's commission on sales? What were their old commissions? If they took 10% of the sale and you get half of that would it be fair to say that the old commissions were roughly 5% of a sale? Then how would that translate into the new system?

    Thank you

You dont get paid for signup any more. Thats old news. Commissions are paid on qcp. The more bids and buys you refer the higher the click price you will receive. I think this might be done monthly, dont remember. Not sure if they pay for deal of the day, knowing ebay probably not!
