Business Idea: Building A Team

G'day All

I have been playing around with a few business ideas, one of which is to form a team of around 5 Web and IM experts, who each have there own roles and responsibilities within the group.

The overall idea, would be to set up a website and traffic improvement service, where the team focuses on a clients website, with each member focusing on their role.

An example of how it may work, is a customer would submit their website for an overhaul / Traffic Boost. From here, the following team members all kick into action:

Link Submitter: This team member, is a link submission expert. They know what needs to be done in order to build back links and how to improve the websites ranking on google by increasing the number of links. So they get to work, on building up back links to the clients website.

Article Submitter: This team member is an article submission expert. They have the resources and knowledge to get as many articles out as possible based on the clients website, in order to drive traffic and improve the sites ranking.

Traffic Guru: This team member is an expert on driving trafffic to a particular site. It may be through there blog, newsletter or whatever methods they have up there sleeve.

Website Critiquer: This team member is responsible for reviewing the clients website, and providing them with useful advice on how they can improve theirwebsite, focusing on things like usability, functionality, colourscheme, layout etc.

Website Developer: This team member is responsible for developing, admistering and marketing the teams website in order to keep overheads at a minimum.

Through the teams website, a client would submit their website and pay the fee. From here, an email will be sent to each of the team members whereby they get to work on improving the clients website/traffic/ranking.

Of the fee paid by the client, it gets split evenly amongst the team.

I would appreciate any thoughts or interests that people may have in the idea.

Cheers

Jake

    Jake,

I think that's a great idea. The one thing I didn't see was a plan for the leadership of the team. In my opinion, the Leader is going to make or break this kind of team.

If you don't have a leader, or if you are going to be the leader and don't have a lot of experience successfully leading teams, I recommend Eben Pagan's "Get Altitude" course.

NOTE: Don't worry, I am NOT an affiliate.

I purchased the home study version of the course when it first came out. It's really great and has lots of good material that could help you with leadership.

Also Eben is going to do a seminar this spring on Leadership with Wyatt Woodsmall. (Wyatt Woodsmall is mentor to...none other than...seriously...this is huge...Tony Robbins.)

If you're interested, I have some information about that upcoming seminar. (Again, I'm not an affiliate.) Or you can contact Eben's company directly.

Anyway, good luck. Seems like a great idea to me!

    Thanks Peter

At the moment, I am just playing around with a few ideas, but ultimately I would be the leader, as I do not have the technical capabilities to be the programmer or article submitter.

It's just a matter of determining whether or not it can work, and if so, finding the right people.

Hi Jake - perhaps you want to expand that to Article Writer / Article Submitter Must make sure that the articles are plagiarism-free and well-written, yes?

PR&C, good point. The article member's role is all things articles, including to write and submitt articles based on the customer's site.

A plan is definetly needed, however I think the first task is determining whether or not the idea is any good, and second of all, establishing a quality team.

I am in the process of doing something similar and haven't worked out all the kinks yet. This really gets into managing people and also making sure you have reliable people working for you. It's basically outsourcing, which is a smart way to do business.

I think my worries are people not doing what they say they will do. Like right now I'm waiting for my articles to get back to me and they are a day late already.
