Which domain to choose. This has me stumped

A new niche I am working in, is wide open. So many keywords it spins my head. I have found at least 100 to 150 kw combos which are 3 to 7 words.

Some of them have huge daily searches
Some have a conservative amount but still not bad compared to other niches

When I look at the top contenders as far as daily searches, some of them when I go enter the kws in google with " " marks, have way higher numbers than I would normally even consider. Yes I can still get the EMD .com domain for these terms (strangely)

Almost all of these terms I refer to I chose because I can get EMD .com (exact match)

Usually I look for 500k or less, preferably way less, on google competition when I enter with quotes on Google.

Some of the terms which get huge searches daily still fall into my requirements (< 500k/day). There are a few that get like 1.5 million competition, yet I can still get the EMD .com. So that tempts me.

Then in the list there are about 15 to 20 domains whose kws get less than 25k on the google competition. Should I go for these first?

I should just buy them all but thats too expensive, about 1500 dollars and I am sure a lot of that money would be wasted since I would find better kws that fit my needs later on, perhaps next week.

Would you buy a domain EMD (.com) even if it had 1.5 or 2 million google competition?

By the way most of these the top 5 google competition is only youtube vids daily motion , etc etc. You can be sure that if the .COM EMD is still available, usually nobody is actively targeting the term. at least thats my thoughts on it

For me, it's not how much competition a keyword has but who/what the competition is.

You need to do a bit of research and see if you think you can beat some of them and at least make it onto p1 of Google.

For example, are they large generic sites that just happen to have your keyword as one of their topics, or are they smaller sites that are focused and seo'ed around your keyword.

Also - the number Google gives for competing pages is almost entirely fictitious. Click through to see how many competing results there really are. My guess would be somewhere between 200 - 500.

well I dont think IMO the results google gives with quotes are for actual pages, I think that really means how many times google finds that term on all of its indexed websites, but still it is a general idea of the competition

Since almost all of these terms I found the EMD .com is available, that gives you some indication that people are not actively targeting that term. If they were, the first thing to go is the .com

On these terms I found 99 percent of the time, there are NO domain extensions purchased, right now, including the .com. I realize this is not common, and believe me it takes me days to find these terms, thinking of every variation related to the niche I can come up with

so the "top" sites on google , invariably got there by accident, the term may be in the title of their post, but it is certainly not in their domain and they are not targeting the term actively.

So I am trying to decide, should I go for terms with high search totals, and some of them have 1.5 million that comes up on google, or do you think that even matters? its a useless number not to be used in determination? I guess its more accurate just to look at the top 5 sites and go by that.

When you do a search in quotes, the number you get back is the number of pages that contain those words in that order somewhere on the page.

If I had a keyword phrase like "goat cheese marmalade", this would count:

I like goat cheese. Marmalade is tasty as well.

Your best bet is to look at the first page of results, using broad match search (no quotes), as that's where your true competition lies.

Before you spend a lot of time or money on this, you may want to do some additional research, in order to answer this question -->

Why are so many exact match domains still available? Is it because you've stumbled onto an untapped gold mine? Or because no one has figured out how to make money in that niche yet?

When you do your searches, are there Adwords ads on the results page? How many? Are they real ads, or the pre-programmed bulk ads by the price comparison sites?

You can have the best domain and the hottest keywords going, but if the people searching on those keywords don't buy stuff, you have nothing.
