Does breaking up your URL affect SEO efforts?

To Clarify:

If I have a longer URL with multiple words, would it negatively effect my rankings if I broke up, ...for example:

Welcome idontknowwhatimdoing.com - BlueHost.com to www.i-dont-know-what-im-doing.com

----My purpose in doing this is to make it just so it is easier to read.

thanks for any input!

I'd love to know this as well. All the site names I try are taken...I haven't yet tried using the hyphens though. ::runs off to do so::
