Why is there no competition for Flippa?

Flippa fees are well ..flippa fees. Like many, I think they are far too high. But I can't understand why there is no useful competitor ? You would think that a site that claims to be second behind Flippa, would try to sell themselves on their own marketplace ..instead they list on Flippa. I just found that incredibly funny.

So I'm thinking that in order to have a successful competitor for Flippa, that competitor should be born the same way flippa was. Out of a popular webmaster/IM forum. So after all this time, why hasn't WF or DP done so?

    It may boil down to a variety of reasons. The cost to implement a similar platform could prove to be too costly for anyone at this time. For all I know someone could be developing something right now.

    With any auction style website great care needs to be taken to ensure that your system is fool-proof. From spam to fraud there are plenty of things that need to be taken into consideration before you just take the plunge and say you want to compete with Flippa.

    The bandwidth costs alone, much less a security team, customer service personnel and more could all be reasons why someone has yet to pull the trigger. There ARE other sites where you can buy and sell websites and domains, but it would take some serious investment to claim your "number 2" behind Flippa.

    Now that said, why would anyone want to claim they are number 2 at anything?

    Sitepaw might be listing on Flippa to get free traffic, a lot of sites do that.

    Yeah, similar to eBay...there have been a ton of competitors but none of them have really gained traction. As a seller, we go where the buyers are. eBay competitors had the same problem...if they can't get the buyers to swap over to their site or platform it's not even worth the seller's time to list there...even if it's FREE.

    I definitely have wondered the same thing as the OP, though...why the WF hasn't put up a competitor...they definitely have the numbers and could put something out that would get the traction. Maybe it would be getting away from their core focus...or just outside the scope of what they believe they're strong at? Either way, I really do think they'd have the numbers to launch a decent competitor...but who knows if it would stick...

    Actually, it was due to high dissatisfaction with Flippa that WF created the Complete Sites for Sale section. It is not an auction but I've watched it grow from nothing to many listings and it is quite successful.

    All of the money that Flippa used to get from me is now spent here.

    My opinion is that Flippa fees are only too high for people trying to sell turnkey type websites. Listing on Flippa, featuring, etc will almost always pay for itself for decent websites. I actually look at it as a good thing because it at least slows down the type of junk sites you see on free classified type sites and requires sellers to actually add value.

    I'd love to see a competitor who won't list sites that have less than say $100/month in profit. The problem is, they might not make nearly as much money. The higher end sites usually go to brokers and you need a big community of buyers (flippa has this) to get people to pay to list turnkey sites so there is sort of a gap/barrier to entry in there for new competitors.
