My site's articles are all text, how can I give them some flavor?

Hey guys,

I have a site that currently contains a couple dozen articles. My issue is that all the articles are simply text. I'd like to add images or somehow add some flavor to these pages, but am at a loss for what to do.

I tried looking for images in the creative commons on flickr, but spent way too much time finding images that weren't even applicable.

Suggestions? Is there a way I could somehow outsource this (warriors pm me if interested)? If so.. how much would it cost?

Hopefully that makes sense

Thanks for the help everyone,
Funk Doctor

Search for related images on Google Images that are copyright free.

Go to Google Images. Click on the Advanced Image Search link to the right of the search button. Enter your keyword related to what you are searching for in the Find Results field and down near the bottom of the options under Usage Rights check either of the bottom 3 choices.

Click the Google Search button when you're done.

Of course you could go to Fiverr or any low cost related sites where people will do graphics for you cheaply?

If I'm not mistaken you can use an image if you say crop it and use it in an imaginative way to that you are not breaking copyright (Someone correct me if I'm wrong!)

Are you talking about just any ol' image? If so, that is incorrect. You can't use someone else's work without their permission.

If, however, you are talking about images to which you hold a license, then the answer is "it depends." You need to read the license to see if you're allowed to modify the graphic.

You can get great, royalty free pictures from these two ways, also:

Go to Compfight / A Flickr Search Tool, type in your keyword, and under "Any License" to the left, click on "Commercial".

My favourite: Go to Icon Search Engine | Iconfinder, type in your keyword, choose "Allowed for commercial use" - I also add "no link required".

Start a youtube account and post some videos?

My blog post usually contains a combination of text, images and at least 1 video.

It mostly depends on the purpose of your site.

Would a banner/picture from an affiliate program or an affiliate product be out of the question?

I would open a You Tube account and create some videos. Just 30 seconds long would be enough. Or add an audio file. Again very short. audio files can be created with the free software - Audacity.

It is absolutely vital that any images you get are either royalty free. Or if they are not make sure you conform with the licence.

Youtube also has a policy about posting trash/junk videos. If the video is short, and has no real content, its probably going to get removed from youtube.

Also, with posting short videos with no real content, your chances of getting accepted into the partner program are almost 0.

Post informative videos that people find helpful, join the youtube partner program and create another income stream.

There's no reason you can't make an informative video that YouTube will accept. The rules for what they allow are pretty general, and lots of short promo videos are up there.
