I am under the impression that the amazon affiliate commission is roughly 4%. Is this always the case? Is that just a base commission and with more sales the % commissions raises?

That is correct, the more you sale, the higher the commission.

I am not sure what the cap on the commission is, maybe in the 6% or 7% range? But do not quote me on that.

Amazon Commisions start off at 4% for the first few sales then it jumps every time you hit certain number of sales 4%, to 6%, to 6.5%, to 7% and all the way up to 8.5%.

Electronics are capped at 4% and computers are capped at $25

Just to elaborate a little on what Gaz said...getting to the 6% commission requires having 8 items shipped in a month. This is fairly easy to do and is a significant boost in your commission. I believe the 6.5% commission requires 32 items shipped.

A good rule of thumb is that if you're not hitting at least 6% every month then your overall campaign needs some serious tweaking!

You may want to research or verify if your state maintains Amazon’s affiliate program. There is one state that have been terminated, and I believe it’s another.

    Great Question...

With Amazon, it's all about volume and it goes up with more sales.
All the commission structures are in your Associates Account on Amazon.

Some items pay differently than others.Technology items usually
pay less (in percentage) compared to an eBook that you are promoting.
I stay away from Technology items because of the commission structure and
go for less competitive items that still have a higher demand of consumers.

    Upward and Beyond!!!

It does reset at the beginning of each month, yes.

One of the keys is to try and get as many people buying at the beginning of the month as possible so that you can get back up to a good commission rate.

In the UK it's different. The commission rate starts to rise from 4% after the first 21 sales and rises up to 9% I think. Electronics are capped at £7.

With all Amazon programmes you get paid 2 months after meeting minimum requirements. In the UK the minimum is £25 earned if you are being paid into your bank.
