Facebook Profile Page OR Facebook Fan Page For Restaurant?

Hey guys,

One of my clients has his restaurants set up as Facebook profile pages, not business pages.

It seems like this would be at a disadvantage to him because profile pages can't be customized and there is no specific landing page.

Is there any reason why a business should have a Facebook profile page over a business page?

Thanks,

~Sean

I don't see a good reason to make it a profile except to invite friends. However, I would stay suggest it to be a fan page.

If he already gave the name to the profile, find a close name to his business

Using a facebook profile for a restaurant is only going to waste his time because he will have to accept friend requests manually, whereby a facebook fanpage will allow the fans to see the content right after they click the like button

I don't see a good reason for this either. I would definitely go with a business page, for a business page as that's what they are meant for.

I think there is a way to transfer over and still keep all your friends from your profile page, but not 100% sure on this.

Definitely should not be a profile page, in my opinion. Profiles should be personal.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me but who knows, it could work better for some in testing!

Business Page all the way, and incorporate a mini site. This way you can have different pages within the business page - IE menus, photos, directions, etc.

    I'm for a page also.

Jill: What's the advantage to having a mini site in FaceBook? My thoughts are to always use your website as your hub and drive traffic to it for things like menus, photos and such. I could be wrong. I'd like to know your reasoning behind the mini site thingy.

Because a lot of people are happy to be within facebook and not all of them want to to exiting from the safety net they feel there.

Adding a second mini site is easy to do, and of course that can link out to the main site - but can be used to display all the information directly on facebook.

I work with one lady who owns a big restaurant and sports bar. They do a lot of charity events and things that she doesn't necessarily want on the main site. She has a huge following on Facebook and she gets a lot more exposure to those people on facebook - as not all of them need to be on her list. She uses a list for other reasons - such as she has some big sports fanatics who she communicates with that way.

Facebook gives her more local community members regular reminders - and is not as reliant on people just opening their emails for updates.

There are a lot of junkies out there who go to play games ( who ever could I be referring to?) and so they will go on Facebook before they will go in the email.

In addition to what others have already pointed out, don't forget that the number of FB profile friends is limited, page likes are not.

Here is perhaps the GREATEST reason to have your client switch: If FB comes across a business that is registered as a profile...it will yank it. No question and little chance of it EVER being re-instated. I have encountered this on 4 separate occasions and have connected with HUNDREDS online that have had similar things happen. At this stage, I refuse to do work with clients that have their business as a profile instead of a page because when it goes, they are NEVER happy, and all my work is wasted...good luck though!

Definitely a Fan Page. There's so much more you can do with one, including adding a squeeze page element, as well as unlimited Tabs. With restaurants, you should always include a map page, a menu page, and a coupon/discount page. Use the squeeze page element to start a VIP or Special Customers Club. Offer a small discount, like 10% off on Mondays and Tuesdays (historically the slowest days in the rest. biz). Once he's happy with the page, talk to him about doing CPA placements in-house.

Here's how I go out and get most of my offline business. This was the best $47 I ever spent!
