Promoting electronics as an Amazon affilaite

Hello, there.

Do any of you own niche sites that promote or review various electronic products on Amazon?

I'd like to promote electronic products (I personally love geeking out on laptops), but I hear that the electronics market is oversatured. Is there any truth to that claim? Or could you argue that there's also a lot of demand out there for electronics as well, so in the end it doesn't matter.

Your thoughts, please.

It's probably not worth bothering with because the commission for electronics in general is capped at 4%. Computers only pay $25. You should perhaps consider non-electronic accessories or even other categories.

It will fails ,not the matter of commission but with the competition of the niche its receives .
Electronic items are one of the most competitive terms where you have to fight with Top authority sites to get it visible with SERP.

      No traffic-No Sales

      whats the point of promoting?

I like Electronics and do tend to focus a lot on them, but what has been said is true for most affiliates to a degree.

There is a reason competition is strong because the demand is high.

I dont mind a bit of competition and tend to disagree with 88 that you will fail because I have plenty of sites in top 3 spots of Google and it is possible with the correct research and products.

As for computers only being $25 per sale that is equivalent of selling a $500 product in another product line, so while it sounds low there are thousands of Amazon affiliates out there, promoting products with a lot lower commission than $25, its all about the competition but I have seen several gaming laptops with very little competition and I think that might be a good niche for someone with an interest in them since its so specialized.

Its probably better if your new to the game to focus on a less competitive product line, but if your up for the challenge then electronics can provide a very nice income even it it is only 4%.

Despite the competitiveness of electronic products, there's still plenty of room to go after. Here's how I would approach it....

Start with those category keyword phrases in electronic products that get lots of volume and then use a modifier in the keyword phrase so that you can focus on the decent volume phrases that aren't so competitive...A good keyword tool such as Google Adwords Keyword Tool will help you with this....

Many of these phrases with qualifiers have much lower competition...."Best xxx" is a great example and there are lots of others...Just do your research and you'll find them!

He is right! get your buyer keyword research going and zero-in on the 590 people who are looking for "mac 12 h3ioh4oih2 review" on a monthly basis.

Create a general computer site with 7 to 8 posts (these are your money landing pages) each post will dedicate its SEO to an EXACT zero-targeted "cross twin tower 738ujjd review" keyword that ppl are looking for.

After you found your 7 to 8 exact keywords that you want to rank for , then make sure your competition aint there, or at least make sure that you are dealing with little lizards and NOT aged dinosaurs.

Make sure that each one of these money landing posts (600 to 800 words) is a unique content driven post filled with information.

Then periodically (at least once a week) post short blurbs (190 to 300) of useful content to feed the google bots.

You can use google keywords, your webmasters tools account (search query) section or automatic keyword suggestion feature that google provides when typing something into the search box; for ideas

Now get your do follow anchor text BLs coming in on a regular basis from various sources and IPs. 80% directed to your money posts and 20% to the main domain (to keep the google gods happy),

after awhile you will have an authority site my friend.

Remember; we rank posts not websites

I wouldn't start with Electronic Products unless you have had luck with promoting other products through Amazon. There is way too much competition on the popular products. Plus, what's popular today is not by next month.

This is key. It's not so much the commission rates or caps that are the issue. Electronics stuff can sell so insanely well that it capturing one top 10 spot can have you turning over several sales a day. The main issue is that the content you write will be obsolete in a couple months to a year at best.

This means that you need to constantly update your website in order to remain up to date. With most other Amazon sites, you can just throw it up and forget about it. I did power racks for a while. Sure, new ones will come and go, but it happens less frequently than in electronics and the products are still the same for the most part. A power rack will always be a power rack.

This is also a niche with a lot of rabid buyers, who buy over and over and over. Target the ones who are in love with having the very latest in technology.

Don't forget to introduce an occasional "extra" product, too. Like if you're doing a review site of all the latest laptops, toss in an occasional post or ad about products to protect or enhance the laptops.

You get paid no matter what the customer buys once they get to Amazon, so it doesn't hurt to cross-promote to them with related products.

That's a good point. I've never messed with electronics because of the competition and commission structure. I didn't even think about all updates I would have to do to old posts when something becomes outdated or discontinued. I have to update my posts in my current niches, but it is a fairly rare occurence.

Yes you are correct however one of my specialties is thinking ahead and I have many products that came out in April and may and june and several of my items have already paid me many times over already within a couple of months of the new product hitting the market, now I have at least another 12-18 months of commissions coming until next years model hits the market.

When that time comes I will most likely have that new product domain anyway but I will also take advantage of what will now be my old site and the traffic it receives by putting a notification on the page that the new model has been released and to follow the link to read about the new model features.

So right there you have at least a 24 month life cycle for an electornics product and the key is to get in early that way you can make a real killing and enjoy income for at least 18 months and by that time I dont care cause its paid for itself many many times over.

I heard that the computer electronics market is pretty saturated with affiliate marketers. Especially with amazon affiliates. Although I'm sure the panda updates cleared up allot of space!

Try looking for popular tech blogs and see if they have a advertising kit. That's probably your best bet to get into the niche.

I am not in this niche, but I do promote many very competitive and high end niche products. What I have found to be powerful methods (since my sites will never rank within sight of the SERPs in these niches) is to write review articles and submit them to relevant ezine publishers, authoritative websites, blogs, and even offline outlets such as magazines, trade journals, professional newsletters, newspapers, etc. Also promote them directly to your lists of email subscribers. With the less competitive keywords, your review sites will rise rather quickly in the SERPs through backlinks contained within articles placed on context-relevant sites with high PR.

Cameras and GPS units - Just start putting them up. You'll get a few sales throughout the year for each one and around Christmas you'll easily double that.

People will buy anything online! I've sold $3000 camera lenses before.

use some sort of recipe and don't worry if you put one up and nothing happens, just put a bunch up and sort of randomly link them to each other.

btw, laptops suck as far as sales go...I know, I've tried.

I run a decently sized tech blog and perhaps we could arrange a partnership if you're interested. I've been working on building backlinks like crazy lately, have 30,000 Twitter followers and post at least three news articles per day to keep the traffic coming. I'm experimenting with CPAs at the moment but I'd love to give Amazon a try as well.

If you'd like to write reviews for the products, I can promote the site, and we'll split the profits. I also have a contact with an admin from a popular reviews directory that wants to add my site to it once I start posting more reviews. The site is Front Side Bus - Gadget, Technology, and Science News if you wanna check it out and you can contact me on skype at david.radermacher.

Well you can go where the money/traffic and therefore commissions are plentiful and TAKE someone elses piece of the pie.

    OR

You can go with less competitive niches and hope that there's enough traffic to make enough sales to justify the work you put into the site.

    Both methods work.

I do both personally. I know that I can knock off weaker competitors, so I do. I just eat their lunch for them. I don't need the top spot, lower positions still work with electronics.

Good responses for far. Thanks guys.

With regard to competition, isn't it all about demand to supply (in this case, affiliate marketers) ratio?

Even with a huge niche such as electronics, if the demand to supply ratio is high, then what difference does it make if there are a lot of aff. marketers in the game, so long as the ratio is high in terms of demand to supply.

I'd assuming the ratio stays the same, and it's just the quantity of players that scales up. If that's the case, then it would mean that selling electronic products would be the same with small or large markets.

Someone please correct my logic if I'm wrong.
