Your best bet is to install a theme (free or paid) on your hosting using Cpanel and then start building your site from there.

If you are getting the "under construction" message it means you haven't installed wordpress correctly.

You should of seen a welcome wordpress page when you visit your domain.com site

    Good luck

Did you purchase the domain and the hosting from the same company? If you didn't, then look to see that you have pointed the nameservers at the registrars so that they point to your host.

Also, check that you haven't installed Wordpress on a sub-domain by accident. If you installed automatically through fantastico you need to make sure you leave the "install in directory" blank so that it installs at the top level. I think that's most likely to be the mistake you made?

Most hosting services have good training resources to help you learn how to update your site and bring it live. Check out places like Hostgator or GoDaddy for more details.

You need to point the nameservers of your domain to your hosting nameservers.

Then you need to use Addon Domain in cpanel to add your domain to the host.

    Then you install Wordpress.

I wouldn't be that sure about it...

Many hosts have a default index.html (under contruction... whatever) file on any account.

Now, WP is using an index.php to display the posts.
Next, on almost every host, there is a setting defining what files are displayed by default in a folder (including the root folder) and it usually goes in this order:
    1. index.html
    2. index.php
    3. index.shtml... etc.

Which means, if there is an index.html file present, your index.php of WordPress will NOT be shown - until you delete/rename the index.html

It might help us, if you tell us who your purchased your Domain from ? & who you purchased the Hosting from. If they are the same company please state that. It is easier for people to give you specific infromation when more details are known.

    • I purchase my domain names from one co. and my hosting from another (Hostgator.) Some have already mentioned putting the nameserver info in which points the domain name to the hosting co. and, besides that, I have found there is sometimes a little lag time in getting the website to populate (if that is what it is called...) after I install WP on it, and I have gotten that message you mentioned. Sometimes just waiting up to 48 hours will be all that is needed. I have made phone calls to Hostgator in the past about this, and this was their suggestion (not sure why there is this lag sometimes--especially when I am in a hurry to get something put up on the web but there is...) So this is just one more suggestion to help possibly--calling your hosting co. directly for their help is also another good option. Hostgator tech support has been very helpful to me when I have gotten stuck!
