should I allow comments to my site? will it be good for seo or bad? and will it be good to let people interact with my site?

    It depends on what you are trying to do with your site. You can monitor the comments and decided what is posted on your site or not. You're in control of it.

    You should allow them if you plan to monitor your site daily in order to dismiss the spam and allow the good comments. Yes, I do believe it will help your site quite a bit, after all you will be letting your visitors write some of your content for you.

    On, the other hand, if it is a set and forget type of site then do not allow them, it will be overrun with spam comments in no time.

    Also, if you do allow them be sure to use akismet or something similar or you will be spending a lot of time weeding through comments.

      yes i will be moderating them all and wont be allowing any spammy comments. Also should I remove the links if they put them or will it not matter that much? And one more thing, will it help with seo to have lots and lots of content on one page and what would you say is the perfect amount?

      hey them sites you make look awesome and really professional can you make them on demand and will they be roughly the same price? also the theme how does that work? do i have to buy the theme?

        i am in the process of building up a blog and have allowed comments on my site, I want my readers to have a direct link with me and be able to debate and discuss the articles I post.

        I want the blog to become an interactve learning enviroment and to challenege people and their current methods of working online, by having comments enable the reader has a more interactive experience with your site, which can only mean a good thing when you ask for participation in opt-ins and product launches.

        One of the few successful bloggers who doesn'y have comments enabled is Steve Pavlina, but I'm not quite on that level in terms of traffic or readership yet

    It also depends on the type of site - I have a product review site and I don't allow comments on my product review pages. If it is just a general blog where discussion is appropriate then I would say 'yes' allow comments as long as you monitor them. Use Askimet to filter out the junk.

    Having comments on your blog will allow interaction with your visitors and you can develop a relationship with your visitors. This will make you more of an expert and someone they can trust - and more willing to buy from

    Yes, but moderate it to filter out the spam. Accepting comments is a great way to increase traffic to the site. It is also a way for the author and readers to interact, get into discussion with the other readers as well as give and receive additional information on the topic.

    Honest opinion.... No don't. You're going to get a crazy amount of SPAM duh! What's real what's not... It's usually hard to determine, but majority of the time it's a bot spamming.

    Comments on a blog DO NOT help it in any way whatsoever when it comes to SEO... If you read that on these forums or anywhere it's a complete lie. It does not make you look like an authority or anything blah blah blah....

    Every site that I've created using a Wordpress platform I've ripped and gutted the comment leaving code... And guess what... My sh*t ranks great! Better after 6mos... After a 1yr... Etc.

    I wouldn't allow comments if I were you... I would take them out all together and make it look like there were NEVER there to begin with.

    Just to give you an example see this site of mine: lawsuitinformation.org

    It's Wordpress... I hate Wordpress... Lol! But no sign of commenting/etc... Right?! And my articles/site rank! 10mos old PR3!!!

    When my site was on wordpress and I was actively adding content... comment spam was a headache. It wasn't a matter of removing 1 or 2 spam messages per day... because once a bot starts spamming it can balloon into 100's of spam messages per day. I finally removed comments altogether.

    The downside is that it removes the interaction from the site which means it removes the freshness of the site, as the comments are new content that you don't have to add. Granted you can add plenty of fresh content yourself.

    While some may say that it doesn't matter if your site has comments to get it to rank high, it is still a part of Google's extensive algorithm. But it doesn't mean you have to have comments as there are other ways to get ranked high in the search engines. But the largest and higher ranked sites usually have some form of interaction... but those sites can pay people to manage all of the overhead that goes along with it.

      There are other ways to get this info. Just add a contact us form to your site. Some wordpress plugins are pretty extensive and can be customized to query whatever you want from your users.

    I think there are more creative ways to get that interactive feedback.. comments are getting old and if you have the ability to scipt things into your page then figure out a way that would engage a person more uniquely. Who knows, that one program might chamge their mind anyways.

    Comments relevant to the information found on your website are actually beneficial to your Google PageRank. I suggest allowing comments for SEO purposes, but moderating them to filter out any spam.

    we use them regularly, after we had a spam attack to one of our blogs and 30k comments later we almost had to hire someone to get rid of the crap.

    So make sure you are using safety first and a good spam filter.

    If you personally monitor your site, it would be advisable to allow those comments. This will make your site interactive and people would like to see REAL people have this interaction regarding a certain product or ideas. Readers or guests can participate and join the discussion as well as acquire the necessary information that they are looking for in the site. Not only will it make your site active with real people, it will also a great way to increase traffic to your site. On the other hand, there is the possibility that your site will be receiving those annoying spams. You must be vigilant of the comments to prevent and monitor spammers from joining the interaction.

    Depends on your goal... but I say now... you get spammed and your email box explode with all those emails you get... And it takes to much time to read all those comments or you have to outsource that...

    comments would not really give you good rank in seo's..only spammers can benefit it if you allow comments just giving you extra work to monitor on these spammers..so you better just focus on the seo to drive more traffic and visitors to your sites which are beneficial to your online business rather than non sense spammers who will just waste your time and you could not get something from them

    I always allow comments on my blog posts for social proof.

    The downside is that you need to filter the spam.

    well, it depends.. some they used the other site to promote their own site. but in the another hand it was complement on you if someone tells you that you works are good and very helpful. Just make sure you moderate the comments.

    If you are using Wordpress, make sure you have Akismet installed. Also, manually review your comments once in a while. For me, it depends on what kind of site I am running. For instance, on my niche news site that I manually edit, I allow comments. For my autoblog news site, I don't allow comments.

    Ever since the 'panda' update, the emphasis is on authority sites. I always allow comments because even though they can be a pain in the a** moderating all the spam, the genuine ones and the discussion threads they can generate do make my sites more engaging for visitors.

    Unless your site is well established with a good level of user interaction going on you'll find that 99.9% of comments are spam / bots. Until you get some traction with real comments it's a bit of a chore, but worth the effort in the long run if you are able to start to build a community feel to it.

    It depends on your website, your niche, your visitors...

    If you want a two-way communication, and are willing to build community around your site then comments are your best friend.

    In most (of my) niches you need social proof, but some niches don't need it. You should be a part of social craze in some because your visitors/prospects would like to know you are real. But some don't care. You get the idea.

    Actually, it's all about you and how you position your site. What are your expectations from your site?

    Edit: Oh, if you decide to allow comments make sure that
    1 - You are using a filter,
    2 - You don't spend lots of time monitoring comments,
    3 - Learn how to practice 'comment blacklist'.

    You can't really go wrong with comments. If everything that you're doing on your site is above board, I can't see why comments would hurt you. Just make sure you keep a tab on spammers and you should get benefits from the extra social points that comments bring.
