Do you have a Smart Phone or Regular Cell?

I have a smart phone - iPhone. Although it's coming to the end of its life and the battery dies too quickly. I'm thinking of going Android but then I do like a lot of iPhone features.

I wouldn't be without mine. I started with a Windows smartphone, went to a blackberry and then to an iPhone. It's helped me out on occasions when I've needed to looking urgent stuff for business that just couldn't wait until I got home.

Typing is a pain, agreed. :p

I 100% disagree. My guess is that you have the wrong phone. I use an iPhone 4 and can't live without it.

I have a mobile phone as they call them here and so rarely use it that £10 credit lasts me more than a year and it's rarely charged up. So I can imagine life without it as long as I've got a landline.

I keep taking a peek at smart phones etc. when I'm in the town. That's because I like my gadgets, but I can't justify treating myself until I can convince myself that I need one for business. So I keep on reading threads like this until I'm inspired.

That's like saying that you won't use the Internet because there are games online.

A smartphone actually allows you to be separated from your computer, so you can do other things. Angry Birds is optional

Allen said over a year or so ago he wished someone would build a WF app. Actually there is a Vb forum app for the droid and I assume for the iPhone also. It's in the droid app store and it's free.

No! Build an Android App! That would keep me busier than Angry Birds any day of the week, even into the night time.

I have a Motorola Defy. If I had done a bit more research I would have gone for a HTC phone, perhaps the Desire or Sense?

It's not working on a Contract at the moment but it has wifi which is a God send. If the kids are on the PCs I can catch up with the internet or even TV if I wanted to. Oh you have to use Skyfire Browser for Flash content, which doesn't always work.

I mainly use mine for email and checking the Warriorforum when I'm out, at the library or McDonalds . I also can check my Adsense to see how much I'm not making LOL.

If I had a wish for my phone is that it would be more like a proper PC in my pocket. Not a tablet, although I wouldn't say no to one, but something that could give me the full internet experience that I thougth the Defy would, but hasn't.

I just picked up my first smart phone last Friday (Android), It's a blast! I wish I had done so sooner.

I had a prepaid phone for emergencies but I have it to my husband. I don't have an cell phone. While I would love a smartphone, it just isn't really worth it to me at this time. If anything I'll just get a 3G card for my laptop.

You are not the "only one", but you are certainly in the minority. 92% of Americans have a cell phone.

I couldn't imagine not having one. Business aside, I want to know that my daughter's school can reach me in case of emergency. I want to be able to call for help if I see or are in an accident. I want to be able to be reached when I am needed or wanted.

I don't.

I did have a prepaid phone for emergency use, but as it happens, the minutes on those things (or at least the Verizon ones) go away if you don't use them, which sort of defeats the purpose for me.

I spend the vast, vast majority of my time in places where cell phones don't work, so it'd largely be a waste of money. Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of talking to people on the phone to begin with.

Recently switched from Blackberry to an Android phone. So far I like it.

Regular 'cell' (mobile).

I don't take it with me when I go out. I don't ever make calls on it. I just use it for texts and to receive one-tones.

Whenever I'm working I'm on the computer, whenever I'm home I'm usually working or using skype.

Therefore when I'm out and about I like to be totally free, offline, undisturbed, laid-back etc.

I literally cannot get my head around the way most other people live - always connected, always being disturbed and usually talking utter nonsense on their phones.

This subject truly fascinates me, although it concerns me a little (RE my son).

My son (15 yrs old) is the opposite of me - he usually has about three gadgets in his posession at any one time.

Me (I'm 42) - I was a child when they invented digital watches and calculators. As I was born and grew up, so were/did personal computers and they were a part of my life to a degree.

I've grown up during a technological/communications revolution.

I have friends of the same age who are totally the opposite of me. I look on in amazement as they hoard their gadgets, often spending all of their spare cash or getting into debt to keep 'up to date.'

One friend has a massive DVD collection. Each time there is an update in the technology (Blueray, 3D) he re-purchases virtually his whole collection of DVDs.

Then he complains because he is bored, skint and his life is totally unfulfilling.

Another friend joyfully showed me his new iPad, intent on convincing me that it was going to revolutionise his world and everyone elses. I pressed him to explain, in a logical/empirical manner, how it was going to do this. He kept trying, but nothing of any consequence seemed to come along. I think in the end, all he could come up with was that he could use his finger to move things around, rather than a mouse.

I use a trackball anyway, so the point was kind of moot. This is also the same friend who tipped me off that LED TVs were going to change the world and that I should build a site on them. Of course, I'd never heard of them, not least because I shun TV. On that occasion, I did build it, as it was a small investment. They were a total flop. I haven't forgotten the lesson.

I explained to him that part of my job is to -

* totally ignore many of the latest, greatest shiny new things in my industry. I explained that it took some time to learn this, but I'm not about to be knocked off course

* understand the nature of marketing, cults, trends, brands etc.

It may sound like I am dismissive of the views of 'those on the other side.' I'm trying not to come across in that way, unless there is empirical evidence to suggest that their preferences are unhealthy, likely to dumb them down or simply the result of brainwashing by effective marketers/cult builders.

But as I read the words of those in the 'I love it' camp, I have to admit I tend to see a lot of people swept away by the marketing and not much in the way of good, solid, logical reasons to change my point of view.

All those of you who love this type of technology, do many of you think in terms of these issues -

* the brain is your most valuable tool that is with you wherever you go and is the key to all of your successes in life - it is delicate and you need to protect it from 'garbage in' syndrome or any unnecessary inputs

* time is your most valuable asset and also needs protecting - especially from disturbances (particularly from other people) that seem to spirit time away, that take control of time away from you

* making the shift from consumer to marketer involves always recognising marketing when it is acting as a force upon you and therefore it is important to use filters to make sure that the only time it is allowed to influence you is when the product it is selling is proven to be beneficial. Likewise, when a huge trend is sweeping across nations, that is the time to be most skeptical, cynical and cautious

Hardcore iPhone fan, but that's me. In fact, I'm still using the *first* iPhone. Yes, you heard me right: I've had the thing for four years, and it's still as good as ever!

Even the battery still is holding up better than any other, and the only reason I'll get an iPhone 5 when it comes out is because it is compatible with the newest software updates so that I can then get more apps that require such.

LOL That is how I felt when I got my first smartphone. It has saved me enormous amounts of time. I never have to be tied t my office anymore. I can email, surf the web, and even edit documents on my iPhone. It has given me more time with my family and for hobbies. Instead of leaving the fishing pier to send out or get an email, I just do it from there.

I sound like an Apple salesperson, but it really has improved my life.
