With Google Places dominated the damn near the whole entire upper fold of that page, only a fool would pay that much for that domain name. I would rather spend my money getting to the top of all those Places spots!

I was expecting to see it as the no1 result. But it's nowhere to be seen. (And yes - I was using the Google Global plug-in to view US results)

I was on the phone with a Godaddy associate the other night, and he mentioned that he saw a domain sell on their auction for $1million. I wasn't able to find what it was, but wow.

I often wonder who buys these domains. I can't believe they just hope that a domain with the right keyword in the title will automatically get them to the top of the SEs.

I assume that they will already have a monetization plan in place or have a highly profitable physical business that they need to promote.

Unless the domain is in an auction the likelihood is that domain owners hope that someone will pay the ridiculous amounts they are asking for. Like art and antiques the price of something is only truly valued by the amount someone is willing to pay for it.

Having said that some of my most profitable domains have been picked up in auction for less than $20.

Lol so many barriers to entry. I seriously doubt it would be a good investment. Save your money for a better prospect.

There's actually a fairly good search volume for "milwaukee hotels" but for "milwaukee cheap hotels" there's not that many.

But that's crazy. I could see something approaching that if there was actually a site developed, but it's just a parked domain!

Few years back, December 2009 to be precise, I started a designing website where I offered services such as logo, brochure and banner design and art works (caricature, comics, storyboard etc etc). I really liked a name and the domain name was available for 5,000 USD. Those days I read a blog post from some guy who suggested "You should not spend more than your one month earnings on a domain name." I decided to follow this principle and said goodbye to that domain, bought a different one. Even today, this company send occasional emails to me saying that your domain name is going really cheap the highest discount offered at around 60% on the original price and the lowest 25%.

I think you should not buy a domain name with the quoted price but bargain hard. You really don't know how lucky you can get.

However, I feel that even at the highest discounted price offered by them $2,000, it's still a better idea to give it up and spend that money on marketing your business. For me, the maximum I would spend on a domain is $250 but the most expensive domain I bought so far cost me $19. LOL

It depends. If the domain worth the price, why not? Of course you'll need this staggering amount of money and a trustful seller. But you need to be very careful with the research.

That's apparently what someone hopes to get for it. I wouldn't pay it for that domain, but there are a lot of domains that I would pay it for.

That's chump change in comparison to what some domains sell for. See here

I feel that is too expensive but may be there is a reason why the owner is selling the domain like that high.

Dumb is not the one who asks a high price, dumb is the one who offers the requested price without any negotiation.
