My youtube account was just suspended for 2 weeks

So, about 2 months ago one of my videos was deleted (because it was mass flagged/reported) for being a 'get rich quick scheme' - despite it being NOTHING like that, and just an honest review of a product.

2 DAYS ago, another of my videos was flagged by the 'youtube community' (it was a great honest review, speaking POSITIVELY about the product)

And I got a note saying youtube reviewed it too (bull crap) and i should not have 'gross' videos of animals being killed and 'unproper' things such as that

Obviously, BS

Unfortunately, youtube will cancel my account permanently if this happens again in the next 4 month period or so - and also unfortunately, they make it easy for anybody to make **** up and report you or flag you for whatever reason.

So, my question is -what can I do about this? Youtube makes it IMPOSSIBLE to contact them for anything, anybody have any contact info for them or a means to contact them and ask "Seriously youtube, wtf"?

I would not mind my account being banned/suspended if it was for legit reasons, but it's simply competitors that are reporting me for the sake of getting me banned - so yeah....

Any help or advise would be appreciated

Jeff

  • I wish I could help you out, I've been hearing over and over now from marketing friends that their accounts have been banned for no reason too over the last 6 months. I find it absolutely astonishing that the largest video sharing website on the planet has no customer service department.

I mean seriously how do they get away with that? Hell, I'd love to run a social network with over a billion accounts and millions pouring in from revenue and not have to talk to any body about any problems. I'm jealous!

    • Thanks man, yeah it's a pain in the butt sometimes
  • Get off youtube, and make video on your own site. This is kind of like with blogs, it's always better to self host so you are not subject to another parties TOS

    • Yeah I thought about that, but then I need to get my pages ranked and that's too much work. It's so easy to get youtube videos ranked highly with just a few SEO Tricks.... that might be my best option tho
    • Even the invincible lady gaga got her youtube account suspended - I guess that means no one is safe from their ban masters..lol..
  • I wouldn't touch my YouTube account for the next 4 months. And if there was a potentially questionable video already on the account, I'd remove it.

Then, after 4 months be more careful about video selection.

Presuming all complaints are by competitors and blaming everyone else in the world strikes me as a story that - if told by YouTube - might be a little different.

Or, if it is competitors, this appears to be a real immature niche you're in. The fact is, review videos do not disappear en masse because competitors complaint about them. There wouldn't be a review video left on YouTube. So it may be time to reconsider the niche for a different one.

    • I'm in the IM Niche - apparently they ARE immature, as youtube warned me about having videos of animals being killed etc, lol

  • This be true mon. If you want I will give you my secret - get an account with megavideo, a lifetime is approx 200 euros now. That way you can host your mini movies. Youtube is getting far too nasty for me. They did cancel my account and only re-instated after much begging. Those folks hate SEO and anything that smells of making money. Like you are much better off with another service. peace...

  • Youtube was created as a platform for people to share and communicate ideas, it is not a free advertising platform for marketers. Unless you are paying for the bandwidth of those videos, you have no right to complain about them being deleted, regardless of whether they are a testimonial or not.

Youtube does not pay for it's bandwidth for the benefit of marketers or any other business, that is what their ad platform is for.

  • Jeff - Honestly, the first thing I'd do is remove your Youtube link from your Warrior Profile. It only takes one DH who has it out for you to send a bunch of complaints about your video.

    • The IM niche is dicey on YouTube right now. Although you are unhappy with the 2 week suspension, count your lucky stars it was not a ban. Many have recently been banned without warning.

You may want to make sure you have copies of your videos to place on your own website and/or other video sites.

Call it insurance in case YouTube does institute a ban tomorrow.

And - probably a good idea to diversify if you have not already done so.

Stop violating their TOS. They don't want your "honest product reviews". They don't want affiliate marketers and make money online.

    • Where in their TOS do they say this? The rule of Google is "we do what we want".

      Their TOS says:

Google loves to say that competitors cannot affect legitimate users because Google's algorithm is so amazing. The reality is that competitors can and do get legitimate content removed from organic results, Adwords, Adsense, Youtube, etc.

Google could care less about anything that makes them less than 8-figures.

  • AND i just had a 3rd video reported, and my account was axed. Somebody wanted me off of youtube - lol.
It's funny, because it was a super honest review telling you you WONT get rich over night and you and you have to WORK

Oh well time to start up a new one

A big F-U to the a-holes that constantly reported me

    • Mess with the bull you get the horns. Building aspects of your business on a free platform you have no control over is a recipe for disaster. Get your own hosting, build a page for your content and post the videos on s3 for performance. The goal of a third party service like youtube is not to make it your video home. Its to entice the traffic on their enough to want to come back to your site and get the content. So a 2 minute snippet that leads back to your site for the full info....GREAT. But a complete review where they sit on youtube, watch the video and can comment, flag or otherwise disrupt the traffic flow....DUMB

I was wondering if 30-60 second slides video pointing to an Amazon review blog is at risk?
  • Upload your videos to Facebook..It's free.

    • Wow, that's terrible. Was it a very competitive product or something? I hear this can happen in real life too. Someone can tell a lie about you to the police and they will take their word for it and come and arrest you. I hope google is not trying to be 'evil' again...
    • Interesting Idea, do FB videos get indexed in search results like youtube ones do?

      Thanks!

  • i am about to start my video marketing campaign.. i guess i should be careful..
