Do you all work full time on your IM business?

Was just wondering, which of you work full time on your Internet business and who works only at night after you come home from your office?

Is anyone a university/college fresh grad and is not planning on getting a job because you will be working full time on the Internet from home? Just curious..

I'm in 2nd year university and plan to be making a full-time income by the time I graduate (end of 4th year). I also plan to have a job because I don't think it's right to go through life without ever having been part of the mainstream workforce. If I can find a job that I like, I would definitely stay there and do IM part time, but good jobs are hard to find I guess.

Currently, I'm ever so slowly building my IM business when I'm not at school or my PT job.

Yeah.. I think good jobs are hard to find too.. hmmm.. why don't you think it's right to go through life without being part of the mainstream workforce? Is it because you want the experience?

Experience, plus there's a huge social aspect when you're at a job that you just can't get anywhere else. I'd be missing great opportunities to meet people I wouldn't otherwise meet and perhaps even do things, go places I wouldn't otherwise have an opportunity to go to or do.

I just graduated 6 months ago and I have been working for 5 years throughout my degree. I'm 24.

The people you meet aren't that great. Most of them hate their jobs and are just at social events to kiss the bosses ass to get a raise/promotion whatever. 100% of them all wish they could just do what we do! Do not much at all and get some cash for it!

Why don't you hang out with fellow internet marketers? At least they won't think you're drug dealing because they wonder where you get so much money doing "nothing" from.

I have 2 great degrees - but they don't mean anything because they are just a ticket to get a J O B. Why do you want to join the rat race when all the rats are dreaming how to get the hell out of it? You are living it my friend!

I have been full-time, meaning I make all of my income online since October 29, 2008.

But, before I went full-time I still worked full-time. I would easily put 40 hours into my job and 40 hours in my business

Nice, me too. 2nd year undergrad I mean, not the workload...lol. I'm lucky enough to have far too much time because of a light workload. It's tough to stay focused sometimes when you're juggling homework, social life, gaming, reading all the interesting threads on this forum...and so on

It's funny how with IM, the term "full time" kind of loses its meaning. It traditionally means 9-5 (or variations) Mon-Fri. Does full time IM mean you've quit your job? Or does it mean you're doing it 9-5? It means all kinds of different things for people and I think that's the beauty of this industry. You get to set your own hours, amongst other benefits.

I make a full-time living from the internet.

For me, that means I'm not on anyone elses payroll.

It doesn't mean I don't have a boss. I'm self-employed. My boss is a horrible slave driver but he's handsome as the devil

Part time IM at present; though my potential redundancy may force my hand.

I wasn't planning on doing IM full time for another couple of years yet, OR until my online income matched my post-tax f/time income. What I have to consider is that if I were to be applying my skill set in "mainstream" industry, then I'd have to settle for something IRO of a 50% salary reduction

Still, an extra 45 hours a week concentrating on IM would be useful!
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[393849].message }}
  • Call me crazy, but...

This is all I do to earn income, but should 10-20 hours a week REALLY count as full-time?

I don't think I could ever go back to working for someone else. Either I'd go postal or some poor over-paid, under-qualified schmuck would end up with a keyboard shoved in a place it was never meant to go...

Have a prosperous new year all!

I advise that anyone earn the same amount of money with their net business - as they do on their job - for at least a year + 30% extra to cover benefits...

... before you go full time.

Been working online full time from home since 2001. It's very liberating working in your PJ's in the afternoon and being able to do spontaneous things during the day is wonderful.

It took a couple of years to gain enough traction and build the momentum to take that big leap of faith by quiting the old job.

Honestly that is when the online income really kicked in. I have always attributed it to me being able to focus a lot more time into my online ventures.

I remember my first .35 cents that I made online from the old All Advantage program. Thinking to myself, can I really make money on the internet?

Then finding affiliate marketing and making a whopping $8 bucks the first month. Then $80 the second month and I was very excited. Then the third month I made $800 and excited wasn't the right word to describe my new insatiable thirst for online profits. If you remember Netsetter in CJ from way back paying $5 a lead this was my first successful campaign. I remember the page I threw up on a free host because it was so awful.

Started a real corporation and the rest is history. We now have a huge list of customers in basically every country that has internet access. I'm a hillbilly from a very small town in the southern US. If I can do this, you can too!

Have been in every aspect of the real estate business for over thirty years. Saleman, broker, residential, commercial, industrial, leasing, development, consulting.............
This last year, the economy,(especially in the real estate business) has forced me into fulltime IM. And you know what? I love it and would not think of doing anything else.

Haven't made any money yet. But have always worked for myself and know for sure the learning curve takes determination, desire and desperation.

All of these are factors of my motivation (althought the third one is probably the most probmatic).

    To all success.

      Hi Jacie...

Before I discovered Internet Marketing I was working full time in the mortgage lending industry...

Then the real estate/mortgage crisis hit...

I still work in the industry...but only part time...

I devote half to IM and half to my "job"...

Pretty soon, I will work full time in IM and quit my mortgage job altogether...

If you decide to do that, Jacie, remember that IM is a real business, so treat it as such...

      No TV...

      No friends over...

Ditch the phone (unless you have prospects calling you)...

Resist the fridge, bed, and couch...

      You get my picture....

Sometimes I have to go to the library to work because the "temptation" above is unbearable...

Best of luck and success to you...
