My PayPal Account Hacked?

Hey All,

My brain is racked after noticing 2 unauthorized charges to my bank account that were transactions made through PayPal. While it's 2 separate transactions, I am suspecting they are of the same source.

As this is my first experience with anything like this, I am freaking out considering all my payment buttons, websites, recurring payments, etc...are all linked to the bank account and PayPal account that was hit.

I filed the report with PayPal, and they are investigating. There too, I have changed my password and security questions.

Strangely enough, I have never heard of FileSonic, which appears to be some type of file storage company that offers a free membership, and an upgrade to premium membership option, yet they mysteriously found a way into my PayPal account.

*This unauthorized FileSonic charge hit my account for $149

Then there's another unauthorized charge to a Cong Ty Co Phan -TM-DV-CN Thao Nguyen which obviously is a mouthful of a name belonging to a language I clearly do not speak! -This one hit my account in the same time frame for $63.87 and their supposed customer service URL is a dead link!

While I am 'hopeful' PayPal will track this down, I really need to learn some 'ninja' tracking quick as this is NOT cool!

I don't know if there is anything I can do?, less wait on PayPal, but honestly the missing money is driving me nuts!

Thankfully, it was only a couple hundred...even still.

In closing, if anyone has any advice, or has experienced similar bs in the past, please advise. For the record, I read everything before I buy anything, so I am 110% positive I didn't get roped into a re-bill, or anything of the likes.

Strange indeed.

All I can do is guess it was my PayPal account that was hacked, but honestly; I really don't know.

Both transactions state they are completed, but in my bank statement they read as processing. I'm not sure if I should contact the bank, and try to stop it (if it can be) -but that will likely cause a $35 stop payment x2 (lose $70?)

Sorry for the rant...I'm a touch pissed off by whole event.

Thanks for reading,

I also had two charges on my paypal account that were fraudulent. This happened about a month and a half ago. I notified Paypal and they were very good about refunding my money. I have no idea if they caught the perpetrators, but one person made a payment to Microsoft with my account and another to an individual. Everything's fine now. Hope it all works out for you as well.

I also had the same experience but I was glad that at that time, I only have $6.40 in my account, but my fear was that, if they can access or hacked into any PayPal account and can authorize some withdrawals, there is a possibility that they might be able to hack into my account again. I was thinking of creating another account and inform PayPal about what had happen and a possible happening of the same act. I don't know if that would be allowed since I haven't received a reply yet from PayPal regarding my concern.
I am just curious, how could such companies or individuals can have access to PayPal since PayPal have these strict policies and questions to be answered before logging into your account. I don't know I hope I am definitely wrong in this; could there be a possibility of spreading our access accounts and even our set of questions? I mean an insider probably? I do wish I am wrong with this.

Considering how many transactions I have had with PayPal (few hundred at least) I believe it will be a no-brainer that they will refund my money.

However, being it's nearly 4 in the morning and I am "all spun up" over similar concerns with future intrusions, I am not exactly thrilled by the thought of possibly having to change over all my accounts.

That would be more painful that losing $200 bucks!

I do believe you can have more than one account with PayPal, but until now I never felt the need for a secondary.

My bigger concern is that I like keeping some money in the bank for my recurring payments (i.e. Aweber, Training, MRR products, etc), if they can tap into my PayPal account which is linked to my bank, I am almost afraid to deposit any more money...and another hit could lead to my recurring payments being missed and BOOM...could put me on TILT incurring negative repercussions from the bank furthering my headache.

Not trying to be paranoid, but it's kinda like checking your pockets repeatedly when you realize you've lost some money, despite knowing it's not there...arrrgggghhh

Only in this case my pocket got picked!

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

PayPal has responded rather quickly, and ruled in my favor for the one; $149 unauthorized charge, and the second charge which was actually $63.87 is pending, as they await a response from the other party...in Vietnam (Thank-You azmanar for that info) and I believe you are right as the support URL ended with .vn

While the ordeal was unsettling, I am happy to report PayPal has done a great job resolving this...so far. When the other $63.87 is set to be returned to my account, I'll be happier.

Unfortunately, the loss of sleep has been ruled irreplaceable...and the days been a blur as a result, lol
