Here is my another try to tell you guys that if you want to build an email list then smartphones is the way to do it.

As of 8/3/2011 2:55 PM, I have 86634 subscribers. First subscriber was added on 3/10/2011 10:14 AM (146 days ago).

This means on an average, I have added over 593 subscribers each day. Of course it was lesser number in the beginning, but lately I have been adding about 1000+ a day.

...and all of this without spending a single dollar in marketing.

So, stop building websites to create your list. Write android apps.

Thanks

I have android apps that people want to use. There are so few apps and so many websites. Whatever you want to do on website, don't do it on website, do it on android app - make sense?

Made any money off them yet? :-p

I've got several thousand people on a list - emailed them yesteray and 12 opened  So it's not the size of the list that's the main aim, but how receptive it is

Good point. All my apps are free (give me high usage), and then I make serious money by brading/customizing them for other people.

I am still unsure of what you are trying to explain. You can monetize and sell products on your android apps? So you can send a CPA offer to a mobile device?

Doesn't anyone read entire posts anymore? He tells you. Now instead of trying to squeeze out all the details that you probably won't take action on anyway why not go figure it out for yourself, get in the trenches and try something.

Why is everyone so afraid to try something? Oh, and below is where he tells you that he writes Android apps.

Yes, all of them are free.

I did testing...and unless the app is free (or you have a big name or spend big money in marketing), your app doesn't get too far.

Also, don't waste time with admob (or anything like that). Even with my high usage apps, I was making only few dollars a day.

        Hi J,

        Congratulations !

Bottomline from list building is making money. So the quality of the list is also important:
        1. Responsive
        2. Buyers List

If you're still building a list, fine. If you want to make money ASAP, then might as well do Solo Ads or do a JV with someone in WF who has a ready buyers' list.

Building lists of free loaders takes time to convert to sales, if at all. Some of the "old-fashioned ways" denigrated by the OP are still converting in the high double digits.

A freebie list is useful for promoting your website for you...

    That's one thing to consider.

I learned that once in a report by a fella named Allen Says.

Plus alot of people complain about the quality of leads when really they have leads who will at least buy what they buy... So you really have a conversion problem.

Telling you guys a truth, my model is little different than most people here. I don't sell anything to my list, but by showing the huge usage of my application, and by providing the proof that it can generate leads, I sell branded/customized version of my app and make pretty good money that way.

Looks like you found a great business. I am getting my feet wet also at this moment with apps. You indicate that you use your free apps sort of as bait for paid whitelabel versions. But your own free apps, you do not monitze them at all? Like for instance adsense for mobile or like the job application app you have direct them to a job site you are affiliated with?

Don't bother wasting time with admob - either they are fraud or I am missing something.

Even with high usage of my applications, I was making like 2-3 dollars a day.

What I do now is that I cross market my own apps :-)

yes you are not hanging out with newbies in this thread. There are some great listbuilders in here that have responded.

Freebie seekers are ok, but not who you want to be emailing in the long run.

A buyers list of 1000 is much better than a freebie list of say 10,000 people.

Just my two cents. But my buyers list make me a ton more than the freebie seekers I have. Segment your list if you do not believe me, you will soon see the proof is in the puddin!

I think you should try sending an email out to your list and see how well it converts. If you are selling apps to people because they want to use your method and get thousands of subscribers, then you should do the honest thing and see if those subscribers are worth it.

Besides, freebie subscribers or not, you're leaving $$$ and traffic on the table if you don't email them.

I am software developer, and not a marketer.

Last month, I actually did try to work with a so called IM expert, and gave him a step by step guide of how to get in android application market.

He created a WSO but sold only two copies (or at least that's what he told me).

I could have done better on my own I think.

It is no good just yet if they don't buy anything

86K+ don't buy anything just end up costing you money

I am not saying some of 86k+ wouldn't buy but it is easy to be deceived by the share number of subscribers . If they don't come to know who you are and how you can help , it often doesn't end very well

I am not taking anything from you . You have built a list and 86k+ in 5 month is amazing feat by any standard

Just saying that would be so much better if most of them bought some stuff and at least help you recover the cost of creating the app and then some

I understand what you are saying, but I have a different model. You don't have to sell anything to your users to make money.

I don't have to have any subscribers. I sell branded versions of the app by showing the usage of the application.

This is what I am doing with my property finder application - and think about this for a moment and see how big this is.

My property finder app searches all the property sites and help people find rental/forsale/land/commercial/etc types of properties in their desired area. Some of them, while they are looking at those houses, click on a button which says "Request More Information". They are interested in that house and want to get a call from a realtor - that's a lead. If they close that lead then I get paid a decent commission on that lead.

I know PHP, actually pretty well. I've created several advanced products that are going for $97+ in the market right now.

Is Java anything like PHP? I might be thinking of starting it.

Also, not to mention, I'm a very fast learner when it comes to programming.
