What is the ONE thing you think is stopping/slowing your IM success?

I love reflective conversations, so please be honest with yourself!

Oh please, no generic terms like "laziness" or "procrastination" or "mindset" too.

Not being consistent with their IM business.

Most people will do a little bit here and a little bit there, but not take action day in and day out.

Also not having a list of task to complete when they sit down at the computer. They'll get on the computer, start checking emails, then facebook, and bounce all around and before they know they just spent 2 hours on the computer and didn't do anything that is productive in their IM business.

So have a plan of action, and do it every day.

What's generic about laziness, procrastination or mindset?

These would be 3 major causes of business failure.

I agree. But I do believe there's a deeper reason to them.

Laziness can be birthed out from the fact that they do not have passion for internet marketing.

Procrastination can be likened to be the same.

Mindset is too vague. What kind of mindset? A negative mindset? A mindset that is framed by social conditioning? What else?

So correct me if i'm wrong...

you're proposing is that most people should focus on one task, and retweak it again and again, instead of discarding it as something that doesn't work?

I agree with the distractions part. I'm rather guilty of it a little myself, despite my Internet Marketing addiction. Haha

Same here with the distractions when I first started. I would sit down and not get anything done for 2 hours. Then I started my computer session with writing down a list of what I wanted to get done in that time frame and started checking it off the list when completed.

Once I did the list thing, all the time wasting distractions went away and things started to happen.

I still use my list technique to this day when I sit down at the computer.

        Great stuff there.
I personally have a mind-map of the "Things to do today" on my mobile phone. It gives me flexibility and yet a lot of leisure as well as business time.

    Me.

I know what to do. I know how to do it. And the only reason I haven't done it is because I've chosen not to.

It's the same answer for most of the rest of you, too, if you're honest about it.

      So true CDarklock... So true

You might say "How can you say I have choosen not, i am not committed to learning on this forum , am i not starting my day listening to inspiration everyday , am i not learning as much as i can

How can you tell me I have choosen not ? "

Well , the truth is what have you done about what you have learnt ... Have taken steps to put to use the actions steps that would make you money

If you have not , it is just not that important for you to succeed... You are happy to hear but ok not experience ...

If you choose not go to bed without taking steps towards sucesss everyday

If you do that , you would wake up one day to see your dreams achieved

To extend this (and yes, Femi - I'm aware you are not saying this yourself, but from the guise of an indignant newbie): We make choices all the time.

Right now, I am posting this message on the Warrior Forum. I could be posting on my blog. I could be using Twitter or Facebook. I could be watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD. I could be making dinner. I could be cleaning the toilet. There are a hundred other things I could be doing. There are even some that I arguably should be doing.

But instead, I am posting this message on the Warrior Forum. Nobody is forcing me to do it. There is no reason I can't do any of the other things I might be doing. I have simply chosen to post on the Warrior Forum instead. I may have good reasons for that, or I may not.

But in the end, I am doing it because I have chosen to do it. All else is commentary.

In IM , I think I think is two things

    1. Information Overload : So many people are sending a thousand different directions every day , it leaves you confused and stops you from doing anything . Of course if you do nothing but absorb information and visit links sent to you by email, you end up not making any money

It is wise to focus on the 3 activities that matter

    1. Creating Product
    2. List building /Relationship Building
    3. Getting Affiliates

    2) Fear : Most people think that is procastination , or laziness that stops people from taking action . That is not so . The reason why people avoid the work is that they expect it to be horrible

When somebody suggests something new to do , they automatically assume that is going to be hard and avoid it even though they are aware it going to lead them to where they want

Just not comfortable with trying something and just don't want to have any regrets so you say to yourself "It is going to hard ", "I can't do it "

and when you think like this , your brain shuts down and doesn't engage as much to when you you say to your self , "I can do this " even without ever doing before . When you allow this positive mind frame , you allow your mind to co-operate and you feel better all through the process

      I like this point.
Many students/clients I have are stuck in this vicious cycle of fear.
My advice would be... Why do something that you do not enjoy? Outsource the pain, speed up the joy.

But I agree with your point.

Many people are caught up with the herd instinct. What "others" are doing should be what "they" are doing. If everyone flocks to Facebook marketing, "they" follow suit. The big thing here is that an online business may not just revolve against solely marketing! Product and service creation is also a huge, huge thing if you can give quality and value-addedness to your customers.

I am basically seeing two things:

    1. Starting that you've done everything well, i.e. website, seo, design, content, et al. You need to drive traffic > targeted and constant - articles, forums, blogs, backlinks (moderately)

    2. Most IMers bypass the powerful force of ingenuity. They get so entangled in the bigger aspects of IM that they overlook the small (niches, micro-niches & now Fiverr) Fiverr is a marketing force unparalleled if you know how to use it!

I can relate to this; I always want to do everything myself, thus I have to be 3 persons at the same time, which is perfectly impossible. Robert Kiyosaki btw wrote that in order to become financially independent you have to be able to become and be a leader for other people working for you.. I hope this is not true and I can become financially independent without having to contract and pay employees or outsource anything

  • "What is the ONE thing you think is stopping/slowing your IM success?" Well for an IM newbie who only made exactly one affiliate sale, the obvious answer would be lack of traffic, but lack of sharpness with keyword research and simply a lack of actual material (articles, banners, video's) to play around with make the learning curve steep and the slaes-process slow. I thought today that it would be great to have password access to the dashboard of a highly succesful wordpress website of someone else, to really form a mastermind with the site while absorbing the "behind the scenes" of an Imarketer in the know. At least this is really how I really learned to improve my homestudio music, so it should work for IM as well, I hope, said the focussed newb

So where do you start if you can not get this started, because you are either phlat broke or phlat broke? Well get a (side) job and only invest in your (IM) company and not in an expensive house or car/motor Would it be possible in the USA to get a state or private subsidy for anything IM related? This question has many anwsers which will vary because everyone has different situations. For example if one is young and living with parents they have all the time in the world to do IM. If you have commitments, family, rent, ect than you may only work part time which slows you down from growing your business.

Things that slow one down with internet marketing.
    1. not enough capital.
    2. The knowledge they learned does not work for them so they have to try something different.
    3. spending too much time with something that wont be successful or spending too little time and not giving your tactic enough time to see results.
    4. bouncing around with different ways of making money.
    5. Giving up and then coming back to the business.
    6. not knowing what works and what doesn't
    7. not realizing seo takes patience, knowledge, and to never give up.

I really wish that I could name just one block but they keep coming around in cycle - procrastination, being indecisive, self doubting, no money, people interrupting, lack of focus and not wanting to fully immerse myself again. All excuses - yep indeed, I blame no-one but myself.

It's annoying as I am a hard working and creative person who is brilliant at solving other people's problems (I know doesn't sound like self-doubt - right) but when it comes to working on things for myself that's when the blocks appear.

The last few days I have been working hard and trying to overcome these obstacles as a lot of them are deep rooted in my mind so once I can win that battle I think I'm good to go. It's slowly happening - the main thing though is throughout all these I'm still remaining positive

I'll try to just name one thing that used to stop me in the past.

    Shortcuts.

I was constantly looking for a shortcut that could instantly make me money. But now I realize there's really no such thing as a shortcut to riches. I believe newbies waste a lot of time looking for that right shortcut. If they could only realize that there are none and start working on developing the right business they would taste success much earlier that they usually do.

On the other hand, by always looking for new things I learned a lot. And now I feel pretty comfortable with my IM knowledge.

    Definitely procrastination/not taking action.

I find myself constantly second guessing myself, and then when I eventually get over it and actually do what I originally intended, it works beautifully and I think to myself "why didn't I do this a week ago?"

If I could just stop doing that over and over, I'd be set!

Family committments is a big thing for me. I am already working full time which keeps me out the house 10 hours a day. By the time I have done the shopping, cooking, cleaning, been to the gym and given my son and partner some time, it's time for sleep. I get up at 5am and try to get some hours in before I have to leave for work again.

If I can continue building my income then I'll be able to give up work and do this full time, and the pressure will ease. But I don't have enough of a buffer yet to be able to do that.

    The lack of focus.

I started in this IM business with the very objective of trying to earn some money. I was motivated with my goal that I really want to learn and earn my own money through the IM world. But there are really instances that my attention, supposedly for studying what and how to do in the affiliate marketing, back linking, how to drive traffics and others are often diverted or disrupted. The focus that I prepared myself sometimes goes out of the tune and my mind would be wandering into different niches, activities and the fear of what would I do next in order to avoid failure.
But I soon realized, distractions are normal, one just has to pay attention to what we do.

A big thing i find that stops many newbies in IM is all the junk and myths floating around holding them back or pointing them in the wrong direction.

Also, lack of knowledge in research of keywords and their competition before they get started.

Those are the top 2 things i find that prevents many people from making money. Obviously most people are willing to try really hard to make money but all the false information and garbage out there jeopardizes most people from actually becoming successful online.

Everyone here on the forum has the power to change their current situation with IM and like cdark said some of us know what to do and still do nothing because we choose not to. It would be safe to safe to say that your choosing to fail in your I'm business. All of us can relate to the fact that's its lack of action and for some cash is running funny, That's why they joined the forum in the first place. Everyone has suffered from this at one point. To answer the question for me its distractions like Fb, and youtube lol. There is so much on the net right now. I just wiped my hard drive clean of all IM books that have nothing to do with my business to keep me from Information overload.

I think my lack of focus since as just starting to learn the IM business, there are a lot of information and advises that I have read and receive. My attention and my focus will then be crowded since it's like information overload in my mind with so many ideas presented. Most newbie will have the challenge and difficulties of what ideas, suggestions or advises will they follow or apply since most of them assure earning dollars from it.
As a result, they would mostly try all of the ideas and suggestions that they acquired and would somehow, try to apply those things at the same time. For this concept of wanting to earn instant money.
As an observation, there are threads that say he is quitting and IM is not true as a source of earning money.
The focus of people is that they set their mind in IM as an instant earning of money, which I will totally disagree.
