I recenly heard of this term and I've become interested in implenting it on my site. from the sounds of it, it sounds similar to when you visit the eye doctor and stare through those giant metal lenses and the eye doctor says: A or B? ok A or B? ok A or B? until you get to your clearest possible image and that's your prescription.

how do I begin? what are some things I need to watch out for?

We use Tracking202 which is a self hosted software for split testing everything from sales pages to PPC and PPV ads.

Very cool software and collects a lot of metrics for conversions. It really is a process I advocate a lot to squeeze every dollar out of your sales funnels. Otherwise you are leaving money on the table.

    All the best

i read somewhere you can put a script on your site with 2 different models of your site and it shows each version to half the visitors that come to your site. does this software you speak of do this as well?

The easiest way to get started is a tool provided by Google: http://www.google.com/websiteoptimizer

The main things you need to watch out for are:

    1. Making sure you've received enough traffic for results to be statistically accurate (Website Optimizer tells you when this is)

    2. Start by testing elements that are going to make a significant difference in your response (Headline, guarantee, product components, intro to the copy, and so on).

if i'm using a wordpress blog, how do i create variable pages to test? for example if i want to test a certain part of a page, do i create an identical page to one that already exists - except one thing is different - publish it?

so now i would have 2 nearly identical pages excep for the testable feature?
