Why have my comments blown up???

So, beginning Saturday morning for some reason my website has been getting comments like crazy. Literally going from nothing to almost 10! The thing is I know they are either bots or someone paid to post junk. Bunch of misspellings and such. Why is this happening and what can I do about it?

Same thing happened with I went from nothing to getting 30+ per day... most people are just spamming but their were some that seems like actual people starting to comment..

Really just if its spam hit the spam button if you are using wordpress that's what I do.. I believe there are plugins that might can help you stop it also

Appreciate your feedback. I'm just trying to figure out what the purpose is? Is it to discredit my website or something? Trying to understand the reason behind this type of thing. It did look like 1 or 2 were real, not completely sure though.

The reason behind this is that scrapping softwares can go out and find blogs. Any spam software can literally go surfing high pr backlinksforums for blog and then it just compiles a list. if your site has been indexed and you have built backlinks on either forums or blog comments then this could be a reason.

Next time you're at a McDonald's Playplace and someone asks you, "Aww which one is yours?" Say, "I haven't picked one out yet..."

    • Yes if you are using wordpress you should use. Go to wordpress.com and sign up with a free blog their to get a askiaskimatmat key and then use that for your regular domain name.

Askimat helps prevent spam comments and works like a charm if you have the key for it.

      Thats just my 2 cents.

Also make sure you auto approve you comments for reasons as such.

That inevitably happens sooner or later when you start getting some exposure for your blog. Not only do visitors find you, but spam bots too. That's why it's happening, but I'll leave the solution to someone else, as I turn off comments on 99% of my Wordpress blogs.

Edit: just saw you asking for the reason. It's simple, they're trying to insert links into their comments to boost their own site in search engines. If there are no links in the comments, they're probably just testing the waters, and will be back later with a link if they see it sticking.

Its someone trying to post backlinks to your site. Maybe one of the poor gigs on fiverr found your site. You have choices on Word Press if you want to approve or dis-appove the post. After seeing another thread here by Willy Crawford I would not allow it.

This happens alot, I use the spam filter and plugins to catch spam, but honestly it will not catch them all.

Seems like the spammers are always 2 steps ahead these days.
