Email marketing question

My email lists are getting dated. So before jumping in - does anyone know of a way to ping these addresses (preferably in one go rather than individually) to verify that they are live emails rather than waiting for non delivery messages after the event.

Looked at a couple of bits of software $30/$40 range - but you don't know until you buy them how good bad or indifferent they are. Any view or experience of this would be appreciated.

Thank you
B

Are you currently dumping your hard bounces?

I used to shoot to soft bounces three times before pulling them out, removed hard bounces and optouts immediately before every blast. Everythign I pulled out would go into my removal scrub list which I used as a DNM (do not mail) list to scrub any swaps/new acquisitions against.

Basic list hygiene can save you the cost of validation software which isn't 100% reliable anyhow...

Often the difference between a successful person and a failure is not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on one’s ideas, to take a calculated risk – and to act.

The process of any software that will check if an email is good or not is very simple. All it does is going through the normal process to send a message, but after the mail server returns if the email is good or bad it disconnects rather than completing the process of sending an actual message.

The downside is this is how you do a dictionary attack to harvest addresses and the mail server may think that is what you are doing.

I would ask the company that sells the software if this could happen.

Also do you have access from port 25. Most all of the software that exists is going to use your home internet connection and does your provider let you?

Then if they do, are the smtp's of the domains you need to connect to going to let the the program run or return an error because the connection is from your isp rather than a real mail server?

Years ago you could do it with out a problem from your home connection, but I haven't tried do such in many many years that I don't know if it works any more. I know I can do it from one of my servers, but I would be worried that they will look at it as a dictionary attack that I just mail and remove hard bounces than try and verify.
