best domain name

I was speaking to someone over the weekend who mentioned he was considering a small website for his 3 man business ( lets call it ABC Widgets )

I said I'd be able to give him pricing for the site, to rank it etc and would get back to him. I advised his domain needed registering.

I suggested he go for ABC Widgets.com and the co.uk as he is hoping to export.
This was fine.


He then told me his wife was looking at working from home and was looking at doing a website for her freelance home tutors ( she has 4 other people around the UK )
I suggested instead of calling it Mandys Home Tutors .co.uk that something along the lines of HomeTutorsInTheUK.com


which would you guys recommend if this was someone coming to you for advice?

1) MandysHomeTutors

or

2)HomeTutorsInTheUk

    This isn't quite right: "HomeTutorsInTheUK" is obviously a better domain-name than "Mandy'sHomeTutors", for people looking via search engines, but for the same reason if it's a UK home-tuition agency, it needs a .co.uk domain-name, or at least .uk.com, (and UK hosting, clearly), not a .com.

      I'd have suggested that she took both the .com and the .co.uk.

      Any reason why uk hosting is better ? ( never really thought about that )
      Does that look more natural for search ?

        It ranks better on searches made on google.co.uk, which is the default url for Google searches made from IP numbers within the UK.

    I agree with Alexa. But it also depends on your marketing strategy. If your business is called Mandy's Home Tutors and people recognize that names from your branding or offline makreting in magazines, newspapers etc, that is what they will type into the search engine. So perhaps buy MandysHomeTutors and simply re-direct it to your main domain: HomeTutorsInTheUk
