Local Internet Marketers, The new Amway like plague?

It strikes me that every other product is now "How To" on selling services to local business. I'm wondering how long it will be before businesses put up a sign such as "No Internet Marketers" on their door.

The current frenzy reminds me of relatives that join Amway and plague friends with their "opportunity".

Another analogy is the instant real estate investor that bought a Carleton Sheets course and is making offers without really knowing what he/she is doing. I had one of those try to buy my house and they sat there literally reading the course while they filled out an offer.

With all the "instant" money that is promised every Homer Simpson like character seems to be trying "local". I'm afraid the poor business people are going to become gun shy after they waste money and time with someone that gives bad service and is out of business the next week.

There have been multi-million dollar companies, like Chiromatrix, targeting niche local businesses for years. Like a niche web site, you have to find the right niche business with an owner that is smart enough to know he needs to be on-line and visible, but not smart enough to figure out how or find a national company to do it cheaply. (Some large companies charge as little as $100-$200 upfront and $100 a month and do a reasonably good job.)

I agree that there is alot of info at there about how to sell to local business BUT so many people are to scared to actually go out there make some calls knock on some doors, they would rather just buy the next WSO and study it.

For the people selling these WSO's these people are great for them, they are also great for me as while they are sitting in front of there computers i am out there getting there local business' sign up with me.

There won't be any significant number of people who will actually go in and try to speak with the owner of a small business. Most are using the same methods taught here every day to pitch new prospects. Email, ads on sites like CL or BP, Adwords, Lead capture landing pages, and telemarketing.

The implications for the small business owners are pretty steep if the service provider screws it up, and that is a concern as I have a heart for small business owners being a former brick and mortar business owner myself. On the other side of the coin I have that same heart for these, "Homer Simpson" types as you label them because most of them that I've met are decent folks who want to make a difference in their lives and just need some guidance from those who've already been there done that.

Most of the offline courses I've seen are pretty sound when it comes to executing the services. What I'm most concerned about is that these great folks need to learn how to own and operate a business and be serious about it.

I've had people message me saying they've had no success after a few months of working it, "On & Off", and that is a problem. You can't effectively run a business in the On & Off mode. You either commit 100% or you don't. Sadly this is where many will miss it and end up moving onto the next thing.

Many many small business owners have already been hounded by people offering these offline services, I can remember as far back as 2006 getting random phone calls for guaranteed 1st page on Google which just ended up being a pitch for a managed Adwords campaign. So this is nothing new to them today either.

PS: Scott Ames? Do NOT listen to this guy!
