Okay so I plan to do both but which of these should I do first?

Run a year long advertisment on a extreamly targeted website. Very good website for my niche.

Start a PPC campaing with adwords or similar.

Which do you think will generat better traffic.

If you advertise on a web site directly it is usually way cheaper.

I'll go for PPC advertisement. The cost associated is equally justified with the level control you have over your campaigns, money, ads as well as tracking. I have experienced some good roi by using it. The best feature is showing of ads to specific GEO location and exclusions of areas not deemed necessary for marketing.

    Anyways do more research.

Hi! What market are you in?
Paid traffic - Facebook for me is awesome and very targeted, I like Google too, but depending on the marketing the CPC can be way to high due to major companies.
Free Traffic - Article Writing and Submitting plus SEO are great "stood the test of time" techniques.
Never set and forget with PPC, remember Amateurs Guess and Professionals Test - so always always always test your ads and see what works daily.

You didn't say how much experience you have in either.

If you don't know what you're doing with PPC....you can LOSE your entire year's advertising money in less than a week!

      If you're a Newbie...go with the "slow-learn-as-you-grow"!

PPC will definitely generate you a sufficient amount of traffic. Although it is very expensive and you have to be experienced with it. A lot of people lose money with it though. If I was you, I would stick with the targeted website. It may take a long while however, it will eventually get you some free traffic which is the best. Always seek to please Google with SEO.

I would also add this, find some top traffic providing gigs and invest in them...I started earning a full time income using this method. Make sure the gigs have lots of positive ratings, or you could get burnt.

Could you elaborate just a little? What are you calling traffic providing gigs?

          yeah whats a gig?

BTW my niche is the pet market on the business end. The site is one that I know well from personal experiance. It is a forum for pet groomers. So I am pretty sure of the target. It would be very cheap for me to run the ad there for a year because they would give me 6 months free. I haven't done it yet but as I said I will most likely do both. Just wanted some input.

          Thanks everyone.

Well... you don't know how targeted a site is, until you actually start running ads.

So... if you book an ad for an entire year... that's probably not a good idea.

On the other hand, with Google's display network... you target potentially thousands of different sites with your ads. If a site is not producing leads or sales, you can then remove it. You're didn't buy the ad space for a year.

But yeah... there's a steep learning curve with AdWords.
