Hi,

Does anyone knows about CreateSpace.com, a self-publishing service from Amazon.com. I want to know how much it costs to publish there and the completion time. Can anyone throw some light here?

    There is no cost unless yo choose an expanded distribution option, which I believe is around 40 bucks.

    The time is up to you. Form the time you submit your work it will take 24-48 hours to get it approved, then you want to order a proof to make sure it is exactly what you want before you release it to the public. Depending how long it takes to get the proof (you can choose delivery options) and how long it takes to go through it wi depend how long this part takes. If you need edits, you just go through the process again.

    All in all it is quite painless and rather quick.

      If i understand correctly, i won't be charged for a single copy, right? Can i get both hard copy and soft copt as well? Is there any shipping charge? If i order multiple copies then i will be charged $40, right?

        Yes, there is a per copy charge - VERY minimal, like 2 or 3 dollars (plus shipping).

        The $40 is to publish to expanded network - has nothing to do with how many copies you order.

        I am not aware that they do hardcover, but I may be mistaken.

    Once your book has been accepted by CreateSpace, it will be immediately available for sale in their own webstore and it will take about 5 days after that for the book to be available on Amazon.com (with the free option). With the wider distribution option (costing $39) it may take from 6 to about 8 weeks for your book to be available at other online book sellers.

    Another online option is lulu.com for self-publishing. I've also gone to a local printer who did my own booklets and those cost me about .80 each.
