A little help for a newbie

I have a client in the wedding area whom I managed to get all 4 of their chosen terms onto page 2 top month one but now month 2 they are dropping off the pace.

I am trying to build backlinks (or choose a solid backlink provider here that will show results as I have tried to and both failed miserably) as they have very few backlinks to the site. Problem is they are only paying a small monthly fee and my time is being eaten away very quickly.

Is it all about backlinks after that first months initial ranking as the pages that are ranking do not have many backlinks, the main page has a few

Cheers for any advice

    Yes, backlinks are very important.

You can try to build some squidoo lenses. You'll get excellent backlinks that way and they are free.

Why would you offer SEO services to clients if you don't even know how to do SEO?

    Serious question...

Hmm I should have phrased it better. I know how to do SEO when I have a little bit of leeway in the budget, but this client wont provide any new content, isn't interested in purchasing any new content and only pays $150 per month for the service.

I use microniche finder, adwords tools, google trends, SEO moz etc so I know what I need to do and I know that they won't pay for it so I guess my issue is finding a cost effective method of assisting this client whilst not eating entirely into my profit (I realize now I undersold as I did no initial setup fee just $150 a month as a foundation client)

Maybe what I need to do is show them that without this extra effort the initial jump we see in rankings can fall away unless more effort is put in to maintain it? I know that with 10 copywritten articles from here distrubted to the infobarrels/squiddos extra on their keyterms would boost them nicely.

Honestly the best thing you can do is fire your client. You won't be able to get the rankings they need in that budget, plus $150 a month is pretty much working for free. You'll wind up spending too much time on the project and your time is worth more than $150 a month.

If you don't fire them they will fire you for not producing results...

sounds to me like they really dont care too much about seo or dont understand its value to their business. I am sure you already have but wouldn't just showing them what a number one ranking in search engine would do for their sales help them in increasing the budget for your service.

Outsource the article writting and backlinking on fiverr or odesk if you dont have the time and money is an issue, i have always got my jobs done on the cheap...
