I Need Something Clearing Up Pls ..... photoshop, fireworks, illustrator ?????

hey guys,

Ok I find myself a little confused, for well over a year now I have been using photoshop and I love it but its pretty advanced, now I know of fireworks and illustrator but whats the difference?? I know they each have their strong points but what are they???

I use PS for creating web graphics and creating templates which I export to dreamweaver, so which software is the best and easiest for this??

I know Im only using like 5% of the potential power of PS so is that a waste?? Is one of the other 2 more suited for what I need it for??

Some clarification from the graphics boys and girls amongst us would be great.

thanks
Andy

ps. Iv'e heard fireworks integrates alot better with dreamweaver and is easier to work when the 2 are combined rather than DW+PS, any thoughts on that??

I think Photoshop is more for full scale graphic design and editing photo's. If you want to just edit headers and banners etc, which is all you need for IM, Fireworks is more than capable.

PS is the ultimate professional photo app.

Fireworks is specifically for web graphics.

Illustrator specialized in vector drawing, more for pro designers.

I'm pretty comfortable with PS so that's what I mainly use. Learn either PS or Fireworks and stick with it.

Fireworks was pimp back when Macromedia was still rockin' and I couldn't afford Photoshop. So was Jasc's Paint Shop Pro - ah, good times. Once I purchased Photoshop, Fireworks became pretty useless. I have licenses for it, even Fireworks CS4, but I don't use it... I don't think I even have it installed.

The design/media apps I stick with are:

        - Photoshop CS4 Extended (web)
        - Illustrator CS4 (print)
        - After Effects CS4 (motion graphics)
        - Flash CS4 Pro (web animation)
        - Encore CS4 (DVD)
        - Dreamweaver CS4 (web programming)
        - Autodesk Maya (3D)

I play with other video-related apps as well but for smaller/less complex projects I tend to stick with AE.
