Recently I was reviewing and information product. The author assumed those purchasing it had read his previous version of the product. He kept referring to the previous edition ala "As you know, in version 1 we covered _____, so I won't cover it here"

If you are going to do that, its fine, as long as you include verson 1 with the current product, otherwise you are going to lose people right off the bat and it might increase refunds.

    Well, you know what they say about assuming... "it makes an ass out of u and me."

    You make a very good point here. It sounds like the author wanted to make more sales of version 1, but I agree with you that it will probably only lead to more refunds.

    A better idea is to include version 1 with version 2 and raise the price.

    Some solutions:

    * If his version 1 is not the continuation of new version, he should provide a link to version 1 with some discount to version 2 buyers.

    * He should tell version 2 buyers that they need version 1 before buying version 2.

    * Give free download of version 1 to version 2 buyers.
